    Hi,

I’ve been having issues upgrading from 2.1.3 to 2.4 on a Proxy server. Once I hit begin to start the upgrade I get a blank screen. The page seems to hang on this url:

    /admin.php?C=wizard&M=optionselect&language=english

There are no errors being thrown & I’ve attempted this numerous times. I’ve followed all instructions including adding shebangs and modifying all file permissions. I’m at a complete loss. I’ve seen numerous threads that seem to be getting a blank screen during the upgrade process but have not seen any resolutions at this point. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

I apologize for your frustration. We do our best to respond within 2 business days to each new support request. I’m going to do everything I can to get you moving forward here.

I’ve been having issues upgrading from 2.1.3 to 2.4 on a Proxy server.

Do you mean a development server? Where the update process will have no impact on the live site?

That’s a good practice to be in.

If you try to revisit the installer, do you still see only a blank page?

Have you verified that the files were transferred properly? That no portion of ExpressionEngine shows a file-size of 0 bytes?

What happens if you try to bring up the installer using /system/index.php ?

Have renamed or moved your /system folder? If so, did you make sure to update the $system_path variable in admin.php?

I look forward to your reply!
    Cheers,

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for the response. I realize that you guys are backlogged right now…

It’s not a dev server. The server is running PHP as CGI. It’s not the installer page that appears blank. It’s once I’ve initiated the process that the issues occur. The page hangs on the url I outlined above. When I view the source code the page is blank as well and no errors are being output.

I’ve tried all the items that you outlined above. I was hoping that someone might have experience with running upgrades in this type of environment (maybe it’s a permissions based issue?).

    Thanks

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Again, sorry for the delayed response.

Can you give me any more details about the server environment? Windows, Linux, etc? Apache, IIS?

As many details about the server environment that you can provide would be very helpful.

Have you had any trouble with updates on this server in the past?

Have you been in touch with the hosting provider? Have you had a look at the server error logs?

I’m sorry to be so general, but we have to ask as many questions as possible to try an narrow this down. Especially without an error to work against.

    Cheers,

Just posting a note here to let onlookers know that we’re working with Mike privately on this for the time being. I’ll post an update back here once we have something to share!

Have you had any trouble with updates on this server in the past?

An sql error of some sort long ago. Many version updates done since then

Have you been in touch with the hosting provider? Have you had a look at the server error logs?

Yes they advised it was not a hosting problem

See other post on same topic. I posted errors last night.

This was resolved privately, and dealt with a server-specific configuration. If you’re experiencing similar problems, please click the button below to open up a new support thread.
