    Hello everyone!
It’s been a while since I been here (or at least on the ci’s forum), i’m glad to see that the community is still tight!
I’m thinking of using ee for the first time on a new project (have a license I never had a chance to use) here’s the big piece I have questions around:

I need to manage a complete catalog of hundreds (potentially thousands) of items, and the structure of the catalog can go as deep as 5levels!

DO you know of an existing solution that would allow me to easily manage such a catalog (on ee, ci or even others if it really strikes you)?
    Please share!

Thanks, and glad to be back 😉

do you mean that commissions are paid to the 5th level, or are there different products available for each of the levels?

out of the box, in EE - or anything really, I’m not sure of any mlm supportive modules.  There’s one that I’ve found that deals with simple affiliate commissions - but it just plugs into another cart to manage referral commissions.

I can give some advice on how to structure your EE setup to support sponsor-downline situations… and some things to look out for when processing commissions.  Most of our tools were home-brewed and not in EE, otherwise I would share what I built.

    thank you mark!
I think I made a vocabulary mistake here, i’m not talking about commissions or references at all - simply a catalog of items / products - I edited the second paragraph for more clarity. Please check it and see if you have anything that comes to mind!

    Hi Dagobert,

    Thanks for your question!

You will be happy to know that ExpressionEngine can manage such a catalog all on its own.

A couple of scenarios come to mind right away. You can have 1 single “Catalog” channel and manage the levels using Categories. However, if each level needs to hold different types of data, you might want to use 5 channels, categories and relationships between the catalogs.

Now, where add-ons might come in handy are data matrices (Matrix), asset management (Assets) and product image galleries (Channel Images).

    Cheers,
