This may be the dumbest question ever, but how do I let my client link to an uploaded mp3 file via the publish page.  I’ve created a channel, created 2 channel fields:  one field to upload the mp3 file and a text area field for the client to type the link.  How do I create an easy way for him to have the text he types point to the uploaded mp3?

If so it’s hard to do this easily. Your best bet is to separate the text and the link - have a description text field, and a text field that is all made into a link (so limited number of characters).

The issue I’m having is that the client can’t figure out the url to link the text to once he uploads the mp3.  He can make a link, he just doesn’t know how to get the url.
