RSS date from custom field

    I’m having a helluva time trying to get a properly formatted date in an RSS feed from a custom field.

    Pulling one from an entry_date is easy enough, but for entries that are updated, we have a field to generate that timestamp. Works fine on the normal display, but I can’t seem to make RSS readers or Google happy, no matter what formatting hoops and various PHP permutations I try. Ideas?

    thanks!

    Just so we’re clear, have you tried the following?

    {custom_date format="{DATE_RSS}"}

    Blast!

    I’ve never noticed that date format before. If that’s available, why do everyone’s RSS templates make date formatting more complex?

    No idea!

    This part of the documentation is certainly useful: http://ellislab.com/expressionengine/user-guide/templates/date_variable_formatting.html

    There are a bunch of different variables that you can use and you can also set your own Global Variables if your preferred format isn’t here. It keeps things DRY.
