    Hi there,

I am trying to upgrade from 1.68 to EE2.0 and can’t get past this error. “Your config file does not appear to be formatted correctly.” My original system folder was renamed and I have edited the config.php and all other files that reference my old system name, but still get this error. Please Help

    Hi olaola,

Did you upload the new index.php and admin.php files from your new EE 2.4 install files?

Check your “system” folder permissions and make sure they are set to 775.

Make sure your system/expressionengine/cache/ folder is set to 777
Make sure your system/expressionengine/config/config.php is set to 666
Make sure your system/expressionengine/config/database.php is set to 666

No sure how much of a difference there is between EE1.68 and EE2.4 for the config.php and database.php. But I would keep what you have in the EE2.4 install and copy your settings from the old files.

    I hope that helps.

    Hi Mike ,

Thanks for your response. I actually tried all of these ideas except keeping the original EE2.4 install config file and copying the settings over from my old one. I am assuming you are suggesting to just run it as a new install and copy over config file settings? I basically followed the instruction in the guide as described. It would be nice If there were steps to address those who renamed their original system file after install.

    Thanks again

    Hi Ola,

Also, before you do any of this please also backup your database as I’m sure a lot has changed since your version that you were using.

Not sure if a new install is required as I’ve never run the older version you have. I only started using EE 2.0 so not sure how much has changed since the older version. But yes, try to copy the settings for your DB and URL’s from the old config and put it into the new config.

    Hello Olaola,

I am sorry to hear you are running into this problem.

Did you follow the steps in theUpgrading from 1.x to 2.x article? I just want to make sure.

Did you give glenndavisgroup’s idea a try? How are things sitting?

I will be on the lookout for your response.

    Cheers!
