    Hi,

I’m using expression engine to manage a website (br.recepedia.com) for a client here in Brazil.

The database server for this website is allowed to have 1500 simultaneous connections, and last friday we had this for about 10 straight hours. Firts I believed that was an attack, but than looking to the DB server config saw that only localhost connections are allowed.

I don’t have any persistent connections or transactions on the website or cms (at least I believe that if I configured EE to not use persistent connection, it wont be used).

But it’s kind a strange situation, this already happened a few times before, but aren’t something that happens every friday, or everyday at 10am. It happens in a day, than 2 weeks later, than 3 days latter, than 2 months later.

Can it be something wrong with EE 2? Anybody already saw something like this before? Can anybody have a clue about what may be happen with that project?

The site is huge an we receive almost 200.000 users daily, still I don’t believe is something about that number, I have cache (filecache) and Akamai on that site too.

I’m counting on you guys 😉

      thanks,

    RA

    Hello Rafael,

Thank you for posting in the forums.

Where these connections causing an error or lowering performance? Any errors or system messages that alerted you to the connection count would be helpful.

What version of ExpressionEngine are you running?

Without some more information it’s hard to tell why you would have so many connection.

How busy is your site during these times? You mentioned that the 1500 connections lasted 10 hours. Can you compare the Apache access logs with that time frame?

Can you double check that persistent connections is not enabled? Admin->System Administration->Database Setting and check Persistent Database Connection

The answers to these questions will be a good starting point.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Cheers!
