    Hey guys/gals!

Can a few of you share your thought on why EE2x is the way to go vs my current EE 1.7 build?

Even if it’s this X plugin is available only on EE2x - any thoughts would be great!

I purposely waited to upgrade. But I’m building a new site for my company and wondering if I should just give it a go with EE 2x being mindful of the upgrade fee and a number of plugin purchases I would have to now make.

    THanks for your help!!

Mainly because as of the end of April (most likely) EE 1x will no longer be supported.

It was a good run, but it’s time to move on..😉

It’s worth giving EE2.4 a try now that the File Manager is implemented and improved. Not sure about your individual site requirements but we find that sites with sizeable image/file libraries are easier to manage, and our clients with control panel access (and arguably less admin experience) prefer the new UI and file management.

    Mike,

Don’t know if that reason alone would make me switch. I haven’t needed support in quite a while 😊

It’s your choice - but the product will also not be available for download after that date.

For me it’s not a question of if, it’s when.  EE1 is almost dead and I see no reason to be building anything new on it at this point.  Moreso if it’s a client site.

    Hi,

That’s many reasons for switching to EE2 (objectives or not), even if the upgrade can be risky when your site is using a lot of EE1 specific add-ons, but it wotrh at least a try.

About the new CP design, my clients asked me to move on EE2 after a trip on the new version.

And generally it’s not a bad idea to be “up to date” on a software, EE2 is now 2.4 ans stable. My first EE2 project was based on the Public Beta 😉

Anyway, the main point is to feel good with the EE you have, and see if you can achieve all you need.

If I may insert an additional question on the topic: is there a general feeling (or specific information) regarding the performance of EE 1.x compared to EE 2.x for high-traffic sites? I would guess and hope that EE 2.x is better in that regard, but is there any data to support this?
