    Hi Guys,

I’ve just upgraded the Forum Discussion Module from 3.1.6 to 3.1.7 on an EE v2.3.1 install.

When viewing the CP Home > Modules > Discussion Forum > Forum Management Area it now looks a little messed up in terms of CSS layout (see image attached).

Is this because I’m not running the latest EE v2.4.0?

If so can I roll back the Discussion Module from 3.1.7 to 3.1.6?

    Many thanks in advance!

    ** Update **

I’ve actually installed the Discussion Module 3.1.7 on my Sandbox copy of EE 2.4.0 (the latest build) and it the preference tab layouts for the Discussion Module all appear to work correctly now.

So it must be an update for CSS layout in 2.4.0 I guess?

A new question I have now is: I dare not upgrade my clients site to 2.4.0 just yet, but I still have this Discussion Module 3.1.7 layout issue. Is there anyway I can get the CSS issue resolved still using EE 2.3.1?

    Hi Karl,

It’s a little know fact that ExpressionEngine, Discussion Forum, and FWIW, MSM are expected to be updated in tandem and kept in version lock, so to speak. What that means is that EE 2.3.1 and DF 3.1.6 are *certified* together, and that EE 2.4 and DF 3.1.7 are likewise meant to work tougher. Version mixing is not recommended, and updating 2.3.1 with the /themes from 2.4 could cause a whole mess of other issues.

Where you are now, it would be best if you could roll your client back to Forum 3.1.6 *or* update them to EE 2.4 to keep everything in sync.

    Cheers!

    Hi Dan,

Many thanks for the feedback on this. 😊

Yes I thought that might be case with keeping in tandem with releases etc.

I am thinking about rolling back the Discussion Forum Module back to 3.1.6,
but I am concerned this might cause an issue as ExpressionEngine does
some sort of ‘auto’ update once you have installed DFM 3.1.7, does it not?

Do I run the risk of an issue here (or is it perfectly safe to roll back)?

If there is a risk I may go with the 2.4.0 update,
and tackle any bugs that occur etc.

(Loving the new Focus Labs by the way! Excellent stuff! 😊

Yeah, we’re proud to see Dan’s mug on the new Focus Labs site!

Ordinarily, I wouldn’t recommend just rolling back the DF files, if you can help it. In this case though, I examined the upd.forum.php file, and it’s showing that DF hasn’t changed the database since the update to 3.1.2. You should be safe to just restore the 3.1.6 files to your client’s installation. (With the necessary disclaimer that you perform a backup of your files and database before doing anything!)

Does that get you squared up?
