Hi, hope you can help me:
i just upgraded to 2.4.0 from 2.3.something, but after it my db was gone. Can’t see the front end at all and there are just a couple of channels i created months ago, but not the updated version of the db

I would be killing myself if the installer didn’t ask me if i wanted a db backup and i said yes. Can’t find the backup file though and I don’t know where to find it to understand if i lost months of work or not.

    Thanks in advance,
    Luca

update: don’t know why but i messed up by restoring a wrong database.php file so i updated the wrong db. Now i changed it and can see the old one, just had to add the daveloper_log table and managed to see both frontend and back office, but don’t know which other changes must be done to db.

    Hi Luca,

I’m sorry you have had some trouble getting through this update. I’ll do everything I can to make sure you are in good shape!

I would be killing myself if the installer didn’t ask me if i wanted a db backup and i said yes.

That dialog asks if *you* made a backup before running the updater, it won’t make one for you.

Now i changed it and can see the old one, just had to add the daveloper_log table and managed to see both frontend and back office, but don’t know which other changes must be done to db.

Ok, what needs to happen here is:
    1) Drop the table you added
    2) run the updater again with the correct database.php file in place

Once you get through that, you should be in good shape.

Let me know if you encounter any trouble along the way.

    Cheers,

    Hi Dan and thanks,
i tried that way but i got the message system was updated already, so i tried with phpmyadmin and imported in the correct db the structure of the updated one.
Now it looks like it’s working but i don’t know if there’s any particular test i can do to be sure it’s working completely.

    Thanks again
    Luca

    luca8link,

I’m glad to see that Dan was able to get you sorted out. There really isn’t any test for that. I would recommend going through and checking that all the channels, fields and entries are set as you remember them. As long as you used the original database during the upgrade you should be fine.

Hi Sean, actually it took me a long to discover what was wrong: i can’t edit channel fields or create new ones. I mean, i can’t choose the type of field (when i do it, nothing happens)

So this is where you are now? You are running on 2.4, but you are unable to create new channel fields?

Do you see any errors when you try to create new fields? Have you made sure any third-party field types you have installed are up-to-date and listed as installed in Add-ons->Fieldtypes ?

    Cheers,

Hi Dan and thanks for the reply. I was able to create channel fields but not to edit the parameters. With no explanation, now it works but i did nothing to fix it…
Will keep posting on this if I find something new.
    Regards,
    Luca
