Hi Guys, I upgraded to 2.4 with what seemed like no hassles, when I went to edit plugins from the control panel I get a blank screen. I was upgrading from 2.3 - any ideas?

    Hello Matalin,

I am sorry you are running into this problem with a blank screen.

Is the entire screen blank, or just the area where the plugins should be?

To help us diagnose this problem, can you enable debugging?

To turn debugging on please go to your Control Panel and navigate to Admin->System Administration-> Output and Debugging. Please set the last two settings, which are “Display Output Profiler?” and “Display Template Debugging?”, to yes.

When you return to the plugins page, note any errors and paste them into this thread.

I am looking forward to your response.

    Thank you,

this is very annoying - the debugging now won’t turn off - I change the settings, hit submit - it displays the green tick but jumps right back to debugging output enabled… 😖

figured it out - I installed a master config file that had overrides built in for my dev environment. Whew. Still no luck seeing the plugins area.. Bump!

    Matalin,

A few questions / notes regarding the issue (since we discussed it on Twitter):

    - Can you paste the URL of the blank page? I just want to confirm whether it’s the Plugins page or the Add-ons page.
    - Can you remove the use of my Master Config setup and see if the page is still blank?
    - After removing the use of that config setup, please double check that the Debug mode Shane mentioned above is turned On
    - Can you disable extensions to see if the page is still blank?

Ultimately we need to confirm whether or not this is an EE bug or something introduced by a 3rd party add-ons (or similar). So stripping things down will help answer that question.

    Thanks,
    Erik

So - uninstalled all plugins and modules, removed the config file and still get a blank screen for plugins. Going to extensions now gives a parse error instead of a blank screen:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_PAAMAYIM_NEKUDOTAYIM in /Users/matalin/Dropbox/Projects/dev-websites/www/vhosts/ee_2.4_template/mysys/expressionengine/third_party/nsm_htaccess_generator/ext.nsm_htaccess_generator.php on line 218

I think this is going to be a start from scratch, yet again. Who thought it would be so hard to follow “best Practice”. All this would be simple if I did a vanilla install of EE, had a single server with no version control and kept everything exactly as initially installed. I know EE is a great platform (which is why I shelled out all the cash to get started, but I hate doing things “wrong” right from the start - it should be simple to do a “best practice install”, even for an EE newbie. Otherwise not only is there the financial hurdle to build using the platform (which I accept) there is a layer of technicality to get a good install for a client.

Anyways. Next step is to scratch, yet again and install every addon etc one by one and check every area in the admin.

What version of PHP are you using?

The error is originating in the NSM Htaccess Generator add-on. Removing that entire add-on from your third_party directory will get rid of that error. Then you can try the plugins page again.

    url is http://local.ee2-4.com/myadmin.php?S=58b242bee10f44f74820b2f5b8748c53e04e84bc&D=cp&C=addons_plugins

it’s still blank. There are so many “essential addons” as recommended by ee community and I’ve bought a lot of them, so entirely possible. All I really want to do is have a base EE installation in version control that I can easily replicate for clients and test developments locally and on my enginehosting account, to maximise efficiency. Really hope I can get there because I want to focus on the designing part much more!

If you’ve uninstalled all add-ons, can you temporarily move all of the add-ons to another location and thus emptying the entire system/expressionengine/third_party directory? Does the plugin page load then?

so doing that initially broke it - it wanted the “field_editor” addon, but as soon as I put that one back into the third party folder, plugins appeared!!!

wowser. Now I will add them in one by one and see what is the culprit and report back. Thanks!!

Ah, let us know how it goes.

So far, this doesn’t seem like an EE issue out of the box. If the error ends up being with the Field Editor add-on you’ll probably need to contact that developer for assistance and support.
