Is there any way to use the mailing lists in the communicate tool to send notifications out about new posting in the channels? It would be terrific if the mailing lists had these hooks available.

This would mean that a new posting would trigger notification through a mailing list. Currently, the notification list needs to be entered and maintained separately. This could also allow members of the site to sign up for notifications to channels that they have interest in.

    Any ideas welcome.

    Thanks,

I’d suggest using a mail service like MailChimp or Campaign Monitor to manage your lists. There are some addons that will connect your EE members to the email lists.

MailChimp has a RSS2Email option. You could setup an RSS feed for each channel and then setup a MailChimp campaign to automatically send out an email when there is a new post in that channel.

Hope that gives you some ideas to consider.

Wow. Excellent suggestion. I’m going to look into that as an option.

    Thanks,

    Hi AJ,

I’m glad siffring stepped in with some solid suggestions. Do you have any other questions I can help you with?

    Thanks!

    Dan,

    Thanks for asking.

One item that I keep banging into is the limitation of members belonging to only one group. We’re running an intranet for a small grade school with an active parent community. As folks join and leave different groups we’ve had a challenge of deploying groups (and their permissions) to give content editing access where and when as need.

If members could be assigned to multiple groups then that would help from a permissions standpoint as well as a notification standpoint.

Again Thanks for your help and perspective on this.

    Hi ajdimac,

This has been a feature request of many people. Unfortunately this hasn’t yet been added to ExpressionEngine. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
