Hello. My current project is building a platform for website creation for an industry niche.

CustomerA signs up for a website and will be presented with three designs/themes (must allow for changing accent colors of design/theme); Selects one and enters content for predetermined site sections (About/Staff/Location/Contact/etc.); Manages site from within his own control panel.

CustomerB does the same and so forth. Would be great if each customer can manage form creation (Contact form and Reorder form within their own site).

Super Admin should be able to post content (ads/events/news/etc) that can be filtered down to the Customer sites (although Customer should be able to opt out of this content).

Ecommerce will come at a later phase and other EE features/addons will be used (mailing list, event calendar, etc).

Would EE and MSM be a possible solution for this project? (Another option may be using WordPress with multi-site manager capabilities).

Thanks so much for any input.

    Hi runemedia,

I’m afraid the scenario you describe, while technically possible, breaks the license for both ExpressionEngine and Multi-site Manager.

ExpressionEngine allows for membership sites, but they all have to be hosted under the same domain. Your customers wouldn’t be able to have their own vanity URL, for example.

MSM is intended to allow unified management of web properties that are all owned by the same entity. This allows for the sharing of ExpressionEngine and it’s resources among the sites, but isn’t a good fit from the description you gave.

Let me know if you have any other questions or further explanations that might open the door for ExpressionEngine to fit your needs.

    Cheers!
