hi there

im trying to update ee from 2.1.1 to 2.3.1 but it always fails with numerous different database errors. i carefully followed the update instructions and i also carfully read through this thread: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/203559. in some tries i had the same errors showing up.

as changing the ud_xxx.php files should not be neccessary, im posting here. ( i was able to stop some errors from showing up by commenting out lines in the ud_xxx.php files)

the above thread kindof concludes, that one should use another browser that ff or chrome, what i did. actually i nearly tried every browser known to men, always with the same result: database error.

i do not know what else i could do, please provide me a hint on how to solve this.

    thanks

    Hi friedlieb,

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing this frustration. Have you reverted to your original version of EE 2.1.1 and reverted to the original database that you backed up. Be sure to completely follow the instructions on {retrying after a failed up grade.

Please try one more time after following the instructions above and if you have any errors report them back here.

    Joni,

The browser you use shouldn’t really matter. I’ve done upgrades in both Chrome and Firefox. Please keep us posted as to your progress.

    hi,

ok i tried again closly following the upgrade instructions found here and keeping in mind what was postet here (as suggested, i used IE9) as well as what you posted in this thread.

The Upgrade fails at exactly the same point, with the following error:

    Error Number: 1060

    Duplicate column name 'show_sidebar'

    ALTER TABLE exp_members ADD show_sidebar char(1) NOT NULL default 'y' AFTER quick_tabs

    Filename: updates/ud_212.php

    Line Number: 53
"}

    do you have any suggestions?

    Hi Joni,

I think you may have had artifacts in your database from the failed upgrade. When you revert back to your previous version you need to completely wipe the database before restoring it with your backup. Please see retrying after a failed upgrade.

Follow those instructions and then let me know how you are proceeding.

    Sean
