I seem to be having the opposite problem as everyone else on the forum.  I had originally turned off the auto links but now the client wants them.

    The channel admin has:
Default HTML formatting in channel entries: Convert HTML into character entries
Allow image URLs in channel entries?: Yes
Automatically turn URLs and email addresses into links?: Yes (I created a new entry after changing to Yes, just in case)

The field is just a simple textarea:
Default Text Formatting for This Field: Auto

Template to display has nothing limiting in exp:channel:entries or when calling the field.

I’m sure I’ve overlooked something really simple.

    Thanks

Oops, I was logged in as someone else (to get the license number to upgrade for them) when I wrote this original post.

I think I’ve got it in the wrong folder too.  Sorry.

    Hi AmandaBTO,

No worries! What version of ExpressionEngine is giving you this trouble? On the surface, I don’t see anything that you have overlooked, but version information will help us make sure there isn’t a squashed bug in play here. If you set the formatting for the field to “XHTML”, do you see the behavior you expect?

    Cheers!

    Running v2.3.1

Pretty sure when I first installed it was linking urls (because it’s a default).  I remember the client wanted it turned off.  And now they want it on (of course) even though they won’t have the site up for more than a couple of months.

Tried changing textarea to XHTML formatting and created a new entry.  No url linky.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Anything else?

    Amanda,

Are you perhaps using any addons that strip tags from field outputs such as Hacksaw or similar?

I double checked the template too.  There’s nothing limiting the custom field.
    Thanks for the thought.

    Amanda,

Could you create a new channel, a new channel field and then create an entry for that and test if it auto links the urls. This way we can see if it’s channel specific or site wide.

    Hi Amanda,

coincidentally while developing one of my own sites I am experiencing the same problem - only it’s the oppposite, I cannot turn off the setting. I have filed a I’ve filed a bug report on this issue. I encourage you to comment on that thread in order to keep informed of the status of the fix.
