I have recently finally upgraded my EE1.x site to 2.x (mentioning this as this might have something to do with it.)

In my EE setting I had 1 set of formatting buttons at the top and they worked in multiple fields, wherever the cursor was.
Now I have realised that in EE2.x I need to go and enable formatting buttons in about 6 or 7 places before they appear, and I need to have them repeated on every field. I have done so and the buttons appear.

But strangely they don’t work as expected - if I highlight a piece of text then press on the button, the tags appear elsewhere, usually halfway through the selection, but sometimes on another line. It also happens if I just position the cursor say at the end of a line, the tags appear lower down…

See attached images, I select “ACDSEE” then press the bold button and it appears later on the line… I’d expect it to appear around the selected word, or at the very least as the end of the selection where the cursor is - not later on the line.

Now I have no idea what can be causing this but it is making this rather unusable and make me pine for 1.x back, which is silly.

Any pointers?

PS: the edit form is also noticeably slower, I can usually count to 10 between clicking a category and the tick appearing. Maybe it is all related?

The same thing happens when inserting an image - nothing highlighted, cursor positioned on an empty line, image code ends up put 2 lines below in the middle of text :(

Also as I mentioned the edit form is really slow - switching tabs makes the browser non responsive from 5 seconds to several minutes at times - and then some highlight styling appears on fields when selected/not selected.

This has to be a javascript issue

Some more experimentation: the problem happens on Opera on both machines and in Firefox on one of the machines. Chrome and ie seem to get the buttons placed right.

The slowness on loading the edit form and changing tabs is the same on all though

I’m sorry to hear that you are experiencing this problem. I’m sure we’ll find the solution shortly.

Just to confirm that you have now upgraded your site to 2.3.1?
Are you experiencing slowness or errors on the front end as well as in the CP?
I’d like you to re-upload the themes folder as that often fixes this type of problem re slow page loading. If that doesn’t resolve your issue please post back.

Re: the formatting buttons I just tested this in my sandbox install and it is working as expected. When I click the bold button the text I selected is wrapped with strong tags. Have you installed any third party add ons that may be affecting the publish page?
