Let’s keep them within the realms of the wonderful world of the web, shall we? It’ll be interesting to look back in a year and see if we were right.
Okay, here’s a few of my own predictions for 2012, just to kick things off:
START
1. LinkedIn will overtake Facebook as being the premium social media platform for business to business users. (I’m not saying it’ll have a bigger base of users).
2. Yii, Kohana and Wordpress will grow enormously in popularity within the realms of the web development community.
3. Drupal and PHPCake and the technology, Flash, will experience serious drops in their popularity.
4. Amazon will lose its monopoly on the world of ebooks.
5. In spite of a whirlwind of rumours, Apple will not release a new iPad nor a new iPhone.
6. Sales of desktop computers will go through the floor.
7. There will be a dramatic increase in the amount of people surfing the web via mobile devices (phones, iPads etc)
8. There will be a flurry of aggressive new viruses which are spread via websites.
9. It’ll be a bad year for Groupon due to an assortment of legal challenges, poor management and bad PR.
10. Google’s algorithm will undergo a major update. This update will ensure that search results are unique to each individual user submitting searches (based on geography, previous searches and so on). This major algorithm shift is going to be very damaging for those who have careers and as consultants.
