I ran across this thread while looking for a solution to my problem and was trying to see if there were any updates. I’ve had a lot of problems with cookies in 2.3.1. Right now in my local XAMPP install I get booted out at random. Sometimes I’m fine for an hour or so, other times any thing I do (link click, refresh) gets me kicked out (I’ve been kicked out about 10 times in the last 5 minutes alone).

I also had this issue when trying to update my live site.

Would you recommend holding off on updating until a fix is released (if so, any date estimate)? Really need to upgrade soon so I can start using SafeCracker. Has anyone else had these sorts of issues and found a solution?

Are you getting kicked out of the front end of the site or the back end? I’ve got several 2.3.1 test installs on xampp and am not experiencing this issue. Could you be as detailed as possible about your set up so that I can better attempt to replicate it?

Are you using any add-ons that affect memmbers, cookies, or login/logout in any way?

Sorry for the late reply. This seems to mostly be happening on the back end of the site (I could swear it has happened on the front end of a couple of times, but I can’t replicate it now). Like I mentioned earlier, sometimes it’s fine, but more often than not I seem to get kicked out at random when doing things in the CP.

I do have some add-ons that affect member’s login, one is “Been There” and the other is a custom module(dealing with SSO). I tried uninstalling both and the problem still persists.
I also tried the config.php settings outlined in this thread but that didn’t seem to help either.

Both the Control Panel and User Session are set to Cookies Only.

Please let me know if you need any additional information.

Thanks, Sean! I really appreciate it. Judging from the #eecms tag in Twitter, there are a few other users who have been experiencing getting kicked out of the CP at random.

There is indeed a bug in ExpressionEngine 2.2/2.3.1 related to authentication and sessions/cookies. We experience these issues here on the EE forums from time to time. The Devs are aware of the issue and we are working with them to track down exactly why and when this is happening so we can get it squashed. We are sorry for the inconvenience, be looking for the fix in a future release.
