    I tried to update from 2.2 to 2.3.1…
    I followed all the steps to the T.  I have done this a number of times before… but this time I received an error… and.. not being database savvy… I desperately need someone to help out here?

    The initial reason for the update was that 2 of the channels (both use the same fields), started to “mess up”.  If you went to PUBLISH or EDIT them, you would get the EDIT ENTRY… then PUBLISH |  DATE | OPTIONS… followed by:
    closed_eye.png” alt=“Delete” width=“15” height=“15” >

    Then stuff would look ugly until TITLE on down.

    Now this ONLY works with the entries for these 2 channels.  And we are up to 348 entries.
    And the other channels are perfect.  No glitches.
    What could have caused that?  And is there any way to fix it??

    thanks kindly!

    Hi otto,

    Do you remember if you had publish layouts saved for those channels?
    Can you try resetting those layouts please?
    Do you have any specific third-party custom fields for those channels that are not in other channels?

    I tried some stuff last night and it seems to have worked…
    Here’s what I did:

    * Click on EDIT… select one of the entries that had the problem
    * Click on “show toolbar”
        *  toolbar edit section didn’t really open up as much as more “mess”  appeared..
        *  I noticed that in this Channel I didn’t use categories.  That shows in the TAB settings.  I decided to turn that Tab back on….
        *  Clicked “Super Admins”....
        *  Clicked save layout..
        *  Clicked “Publish Layout”....
    and suddenly it was back to “normal” with the Categories Tab in the list.  For now we are going to leave Categories there even though we don’t use any for these Channels… but why “fix” what works.

    As for 3rd party fields… no… just my own… two text fields.  Very simple.

    so the “messed up” Channel entries seems now to be fixed.
    We will worry about the database update error down the road… but that part is still looming.

    Hi otto,

    It looks like it was mostly a cahce issue regarding your layouts and I’d say a clearing out of that and a deletion of your browser cache would have initially solved it for you.

    Do you remember what the database error was when you upgraded?

    Regarding the error message…. I knew I should have taken a screen shot!
    I believe it was error 1060 (thank you browser history!).
    I found this thread on the site:  http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/202676/
    However… when I went to the WIKI page, the solution was to wipe the database… update.. and then upload the old database (or maybe upload the old before the updating).  Whatever the solution, the issue of having the old database was what was stopping me.  For starters, the host company this site is on has an extremely confusing update and I cannot figure out how to download the database.  Thus.. I was stuck.

    Sorry to hear about the frustrating upgrade experience you had, Otto. Catch me up to speed: is there anything else John or I can do to help at this point?

    Right now it’s working… it occasionally reminds to update… but it works… so I’m not going to touch it until sometime next year.  I’ll start to worry again then.  Not now.  Too much other stuff to deal with.
    😊
    thanks
