I’ve got a client who is using an EE 2.2.2 MSM site and has been coming across an issue whereby when they delete a couple of entries from the edit screen, multiple entries they didn’t select are also deleted.

We’ve been able to recover these from the database backups and I can confirm the records are being deleted from EXP_CHANNEL_DATA and EXP_CHANNEL_TITLES

Have you heard of anything like this before and is there a course of action I can take to troubleshoot the issue?

    Hi Blis Web Agency,

I have experienced this personally, but I was unable to recreate it. For me, it was also on 2.2.2. I haven;t seen this issue on 2.3.1 Is there a chance for you to update the site to the latest version?

This has happened several times to your client? Can you provide and info about what OS and browser they were using when this occurred? If you can provide a few more details regarding the circumstances, we can pass that along to the Dev Team.

    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,

Yes, upgrading is on the cards for this client but it’s a big site so it takes a little while to prepare for. I have however got a dev version running in a sub domain of the same server and will be running a few tests myself to try and recreate the problem. If I can recreate it, I’ll upgrade to 2.3.1 and see if that does the trick. If so, we’ll move forward our plans to upgrade the live site and let you know.

As for your other questions: It has happened a few times to this client. Initially on 2.1.3 and now on 2.2.2. I can confirm that they’re using Windows in their office but the version varies from machine to machine. The site has a few different admin users, so the browser also varies but we have encouraged them towards Chrome and away from IE. Last time this issue occurred, the user was running the latest stable version of Chrom on Windows 7.

If there’s anything else I can tell you which may be helpful, please let me know.

Hi, Sam. The best thing you can do is to keep track of what happens as you test. Having the db on a test server is the best way to re-create.

Let us know when you’ve had a chance to upgrade. We’ll be here.

    Hi Sue,

Unfortunately I haven’t been able to recreate the issue myself. After gathering some more information from the client they told me the issue happened under these conditions:

    EE Version: 2.2.2
    User Level: Super Admin
    Browser: Chrome 13
    OS: Win Vista (32bit)
Number of entries deleted: less than 10

I then setup these same conditions on their DEV server. This is the same server and the same site (cloned files and db) but under a subdomain. After documenting 12 tests I didn’t find any issues..!

At this stage I think I’ll have to just take the course of action that an upgrade will be the best thing we can do to reduce the chance of this happening again.

In that case, let’s go ahead and close the thread, but if you need to re-open it at a later date, feel free to.
