Anyway to make new custom fields hidden by default?

    Hi,

I have a large field group which contains custom channel fields that are used in multiple channels.. I went to each channel and clicked the little “eye” icon to hide it, saved layout… good to go.

Problem is: When ever adding a NEW custom field it displays on every channel attached to that field group. This is very annoying because I then have to goto each channel and hide it if it does not pertain to that channel.

Anyway around this? - The hidden by default option when creating the custom field will only “collapse” it - This method just confuses clients =/

    Thanks !!

    Hi rkingon,

Unfortunately you do have to edit the publish layout each time you add a new field, there is currently no setting to automatically update a publish layout in this way. By default, all new fields are displayed at the end of a publish layout and aren’t actually a part of the layout settings yet. But I understand the issue and you may want to consider making a Feature Request so that our team can consider updating this for a future release.

Please let us know if this answers your question.

Do you know where in the database these settings are so I can edit it right through there?

I can tell you that it’s in the exp_layouts table, but the layout information is stored as a serialized array since the data structure can vary so much, so it’s not as easy to edit, sorry to say.

Is there anything else regarding publish layouts I can help you with?
