I have seen quite a bit on how to move a site from testing/development to production/live with EE 2.
What are the best resources for moving an EE 1.x site?
This has been really painful for me and I’m not having any luck in search.

Hi kevindees,
To move a 1.x site from testing to live is pretty much the same as a 2.x site.
One item I would say to do first would be to install the fantastic 3rd party add-on called Deeploy Helper on your development site first. This will enable you to very quickly change system paths once the rest of these steps have been followed.
The main items you need to do first are ensure you have a really good backup of both your database file and also your site files.
Once you have these you will want to create a database on your live server with the same name as the database you created in your test environment and import the database backup that you created earlier into this database.
Next upload all your files to your new server. Don’t upload any of the system > cache folder files except for the index.html file though.
Once that is all done you can go to your Control Panel and login. Hopefully you should get into your system. It will very likely look completely wrong and un-styled though so you will have a few paths that you will need to change which if you installed the module mentioned above and made a tab for it you can now go to and change most of the paths in your system that will need changing.
Once that is all done though you should be good to go.
Does that help at all?
Thanks,
Mark

I have moved the site over but when I go to log into the admin I get an unstyles screen. Then when I log in I get a blank screen. Is this due to a bad DB connection? I know that my DB login info is right and I have tested it on other sites.
Also there is no styling to the System/Admin area.
Maybe I’m missing a step?
How do you sync templates in EE 1.x? This is part of the EE 2 instructions.
Also, I have many uri’s in the DB pointing to the old site location. Is there a way to change them easily? Maybe run a DB Replace query?

Hi Kevin,
Did you install the Deeploy Helper as per my instructions above first?
If you did and you created a tab for it (mentioned above also) then you should be able to get into that module quite easily once you are logged into the Control Panel and then you will be able to very easily update nearly all the paths that will be required for you to update in order for your site to regain its styling again.
You say above that when you login you get a blank screen but then go on to say that there is no styling in the admin area. With the former I took it that you were referring to the Control Panel but that doesn’t seem to be so based upon what you have said in the latter.
That aside though if you have that Module installed then you should be able to get to that page (it will also look un-styled for now) and update all your system paths.
After you have updated them all (double check to make sure they are correct) save your changes and you should see your control panel styling come back again.
Does that help at all?
Thanks,
Mark

I was able to get the plugin installed but I’m not having luck with the site. I’m sure this has to do with the theme design, extension and/or modules that are installed. Upgrading the version fixed a few things for me.
Unfortunately I was not the original developer for the site. It is a mess to tell the truth.
Thanks for all the pointers.
P.S. Sorry about the confusing description of my problems. I jumbled two different sites and their issues into the one question (This is about the unstyled and blank thing you caught).

Hi Kevin,
When you say you aren’t having luck with the site were you able to get things looking right style wise in the Control Panel?
Just wondering where you are at with all of this? Are there any remaining technical support problems here or problems with 3rd party add-ons maybe?
Thanks,
Mark

Yes, the control panel is still unstyled after using the deeply plugin and changing the setting with it. I think this has more to do with me updating the core to 1.7.1 from 1.6.4

Hi Kevin,
Although I know your Control Panel won’t be the easiest to navigate at the moment without any styling, are you able to go to Admin > System Preferences > General Configuration and just check the URL to your “themes” folder and Theme Folder Path settings to make sure they are definitely correct for your site please.
Thanks,
Mark
