Hello good people of the EE!
I’ll try to explain what’s on our minds. Hope this isn’t to mind-boggling.. Kay, here we go! Thanks in advance for reading.
The Situation
Client (restaurant) has multiple locations. Each location has a page (entry) on the website.
The website features the restaurants menucard on its own page.
Every once in a while, the menucard changes. But, not for all locations at the same time.
They wish to be able to create a new menucard and show this for 1 location only.
They also wish to have that same new menucard apply for other locations as well later on.
They also wish to be able to use a certain start-date and end-date for this new menucard.
There will always be 2 menucards. The default one, and the new one. The new one is just rolled out differently per location.
And at some point, this new menucard must be shown for all of their locations. In other words, at some point, the new one
becomes the default one.
Current Page / URL struction
http://www.website.com/dining/menucard/ -> the default menucard
http://www.website.com/restaurants/locationA/ -> detailled page for location A
http://www.website.com/restaurants/locationB/ -> detailled page for location B
http://www.website.com/restaurants/locationC/ -> detailled page for location C
How is the site functioning?
Whenever there is an alternate menucard for a specific location, the menucard-page shows an HTML-overlay where
the visitor can click on a alternate locations’ menucard, or choose to show the default menucard.
When you click on a location-based menucard, the URL becomes
http://www.website.com/restaurants/locationB/menucard/
This is not a physic page in EE/Structure, but is handled through template-groups and templates.
How the h**@##* are we going to set this up, backend wise? Any constructive thoughts?
Trying to get my head around this… And the point where the new menucard becomes the default, there
should be some way to ‘import’ the new menucard into the default one, so they can start over creating
the new one again. AAAAH! Hahaha.
We just adopted EE 2 months a go and it’s blowing our minds so far!
