Wondering if EE supports project requirements

I am interested in using EE for a client but am wondering if it supports the following requirements.

The first part of the project requires that the website displays articles, events, and other static content.  Obviously EE supports this.

The website also needs to display a number of products.  These products are managed in a FileMaker database.  The product pages will also pull in EE managed content such as articles.

Finally, the project has an e-commerce component where visitors will be able to purchase products.  Again, these products won’t be managed by EE.  They will be managed in a FileMaker database.

Now I understand this is going to require a great deal of custom functionality.  I am very comfortable with CodeIgniter.  Are these requirements something that would be very difficult to implement with EE or are they pretty common?

    Thank you.

    Hi, birderic.

First of all EE doesn’t directly support FileMaker databases. There is a third party add-on called DataGrab that might help with importing content from either an XML source, .csv, or RSS feed.  I personally don’t do development with CI, so I can’t speak to that, but it does sound like you could use EE for a great deal of the project, and the rest use CI.
