I have just converted my EE 1.6.9 site to EE 2.2.2 on EngineHosting—and have now installed MSM with the idea of supporting a second domain off this same implementation and account.

I’m uneasy as to how to proceed with the MSM set up screen for this new site.

Does anyone have or know of a clear and exact example that I can perhaps follow? Or have any other suggestions or leads?

Very much appreciated. Thanks!! Larry A.

    Hi Larry,

There is quite a bit of information in the User Guide as to the Multiple Site Manager. Have you see that yet?

Mark, yes I have. I’m going to give it a shot here shortly, but when I first looked at the screen to add a new site, without doing a submit, the next thing I knew was that my super admin userid and password no longer worked. Nor my original EngineHosting userid.

It was only thru another super admin’s id that I was able to get back into the EE CP and reset my password, and, for the moment, appear to be okay. So thought I would post a question before trying this again.

    Will advise. Thanks.

    Hi Larry,

Are you okay now with logging in or are you still having problems with that?

If you follow through the MSM documentation and have any problems then please do let us know.

    Thanks,

    Mark

Mark, yes, I have everything working okay now.

A couple things I mistook in the documentation initially.

    1.  The references to domain1.com and domain2.com under “Setup Domains and Sub-domains” are not a literal reference to actual.com domain names, but rather your starting directory on the hosting server.
    2.  The second issue of sorts was the advice to contact your hosting company to set up the second domain directory.  They, in turn, said I should create and let them know what and where it was.  Which I did. After which they then referenced the actual .com domain name with this directory.
    3.  Not mentioned was that I also then needed to go out to the support page for the vendor with whom the new site domain was registered, and change server references to point to my current hosting company using the references they forwarded back on request.

And all is now working fine.  I have the EE “site down” utility page up for now while I work on the new site.

    Thanks much!! Larry A.

Yes we use domain1.com and sometimes example.com to explain certain items to people in the documentation. I agree that sometimes this may need a little more explaining as otherwise they seem like real domain names.

No problem at all. I’m glad you have everything up and running now.

If anything else crops up then please don’t hesitate to post again as needed.

    Cheers,

    Mark
