So I have no clue why this wouldn’t work.

I create an entry, assign it a page URL, it shows up in the pages module, however when I click the link, it starts to load the EE redirect URL

    http://www.cceh.org/?URL=http://www.cceh.org/new

    Then hangs

When I try to visit the page I made (based on a news item), it goes to the wrong template (a static template page).

    I go to http://www.cceh.org/new

    I should get
    http://www.cceh.org/news/archive/a-quick-overview-of-our-new-website

    EE Version: v2.2.2 - Build: date 20110801

    What did I mess up?

Also, in what I think is a related issue

Whcn I click the site button on the upper right hand corner to visit the live site, that redirect work doesn’t work either.

    http://www.cceh.org/?URL=http://www.cceh.org/ (goes, but does nothing)

    James,

    did you recently update EE?

If so I suspect you did not replace the index.php and admin.php in your root with the ones from the EE2.2.2 version

Do you think that might be the case?

    Hi John,

I updated the index/admin files and it DID get the homepage button working, so thanks for that!

The custom Page URI continues to not work :(. Any other notions or files I may have missed?

    Thanks!

    Hi, James,

If you edit the entry and go to the Pages tab, is the URI and template still correct?

    Thanks!

Yes it is. The wrong template and wrong entry load (really not an entry, a static page).

    Hi, James,

The simplest thing to try would be to build this out as per the pages quick start guide and see if that works.  If not, it may be time for us to go in and have a look.

While you do that can you post a screenshot of the pages tab for that entry, as well as a link to the front-end display?

    Hi Lisa,

So done, but sadly not working. An entry was created and entries code adjusted to be the fields/channel for my site of course.

I’ll message you some login info. This isn’t critical but would be a nice to fix 😊 Please note I am using the index.php removal technique in the EE 2 manual. Perhaps that has something to do with it?

    Hi, James,

If you’re on 2.2.2 then I’ m going to need to ask you to update to EE 2.3.1 - that includes 2.3’s bug fixes as well as a security update.  If it doesn’t fix this up then it’ll be time for me to login and have a look myself.

    Thanks!

    Hi Lisa,

I’ve made the update to EE v2.3.1 - Build: date 20111017 this weekend and the pages URIs still are not functioning. Let me know where I can drop in the login info.

    Hi, James.

I’m looking at your site now.. and I see that you have a single item in the Pages module selected.

I also noticed you’re using a number of third party add-ons. On my default install of EE 2.3.1, I see when I attempt to assign a Page, the name I’m going to assign it to, and the name of the template to assign it.

I don’t see this on your site.

See the difference between the two sites?

    Hi James,

When I logged into this to have a look, I noticed that you have the “Template” field disabled in your publish layout. That field is part of how ExpressionEngine’s Pages module works. It’s kind of a 2 step process:
    1) you assign the URI for the page, in your instance /test/uri/
    2) you assign a template-group/template that ExpressionEngine will use to render the page.

Without this field available in your layout, the Pages module can’t really function. To fix this, go to the affected layout and click on “Show toolbar” in the upper right of the publish layout. Click the “eye” icon next to “Template” in the list. This will show the template drop down on the publish layout. Move the drop down to an area of the layout suitable to you and click “Save Layout”. Then click “hide toolbar”. Now, assign the page the appropriate template-group/template and see if it renders correctly.

Let me know if you have any other questions about this.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Using your information I was able to further narrow down the issue (it’s actually a conflict between how pager pages chooses the template for the page, vs the inbuilt EE functionality). I’ll have to do some backend reworking on my end but this helped figure that out, thanks!

P.S. sorry for the delayed confirmation, I had another project due so had to put this on the back burner.

No worries, James!  At this point, you have a plan to move forward and are all set?

    Thanks!
