Hi,

I have no idea why our members can send private messages in the forum to each other, but they don’t seem to be able to reply to these messages. When you click the reply button, you are taken to your private message inbox again…

Do you have any idea what could be happening?

Can you as the SuperAdmin reply? Can you tell us which version/build of EE2.x you’re using? See EEWiki:// HowTo Determine My EE Version

Is this a new problem, or have you always had trouble doing this?

To answer your questions:
- As a SuperAdmin I can’t reply either.
- I am using EE 2.1.3 and EE Discussion Forum Module 3.1.2, I am about to update to the latest but since this process takes a while I can’t do it immediately.
- The private message functionality in the forum has never worked in our site actually.

If you can update to the latest versions of both ExpressionEngine and the Discussion Forum Module then this would be great as then we can follow along ourselves. Unfortunately we don’t keep older versions of the software at hand and so are only able to test these items out on the latest versions.

That said could it be possible that the users have added other users to their block list in their forum control panel?

That or maybe they turned off the   Accept Private Messages sent to you by other members of this site preference after they had sent out the original PM?

Regarding your questions, the same thing happens to everyone: whenever you are reading a private message and click reply (or any of the other options) your are instantly and with no warning, taken to your private message inbox again. Just like that.

Hopefully, our site should be updated by tomorrow and if we’re fortunate this bug will be removed. However, while reviewing the faulty topic, we have decided that we’d prefer to keep private conversations between users between themselves, so we’ve hidden all the PM user interface, allowing users to only communicate by email. This means that I will most likely not be giving EE support more feedback about this particular situation.

Someone who has modded the style of the buttons in our site suggests that the issue could be related to faulty functionality on such modification. This could be the issue, meaning that EE code would be just fine. however I suggest a bit of debugging to make sure it is.
