    Hi there,

I have recently just pointed a new domain at my site (previously it was being served vi IP address). When NOT logged in visitors get:

    System Offline

    This site is currently offline

But I am able to see the site when logged in as super admin.

I have MSM installed but general configuration for both sites as follows:

    Is system on: YES
    Is site on: YES
    $config[‘is_system_on’] = “y”;

    How can it be offline??

    Please advise asap.

    Many thanks,

    L.

    Hi Loquela,

Can you tell us what your index.php looks like?  Some people take the sites offline by making index.php an HTML file that says system offline.

    Thank you!

    Thanks Lisa

At the moment I have placed an additional index.html file in there to appease my clients. The original index.php file is the correct production file for the site, and you can access by going to instepuk.com/index.php

Also, as I mention above, the site appears online fine when I am logged in as a superadmin.

I have MSM activated and at one point I set the secondary site as offline. However this seemed to put the entire System offline so I reverted.

Now, as described above, all configuration settings are set to online. I’m totally foxed.

    Hi, Simon,

I’ve had a look around; things do seem to be set up correctly, but that offline message is there.

I do see you are on EE 2.1.3 with an older build of MSM.  Before we can troubleshoot this further, I will need to ask you to update both EE and MSM to the latest version.  That may fix it, but if not, then we will continue to troubleshoot.

    Thank you!

    Hi, Simon,

Still trying to figure this one out.  I’d like to try with extensions globally disabled (not disabling individual extensions) and with .htaccess temporarily disabled.

But before I do those - as they may impact your site - I want to get your go ahead.  Are you ok with me trying those things?

    Yes, please go ahead Lisa.

Although I don’t think disabling .htaccess will have any effect (tried that).

I think this all happened after I set the secondary site Offline. Doing this seemed to out the entire system offline. So I reverted back using General Configuration settings, but it remained offline. You can enter the site if you log in a Administrator which is odd.

My feeling is that there is something amiss in the database….?

Please feel free to disable the holding page index.html while you test.

    Many thanks,

    Simon

I have not been able to figure this one out so have asked the dev team to have a look and try to help fix it.

I’ll update you when I have more information.

Replied privately as well- looks like the guest member group was set to not allow them to view the site when it was online- hence they were getting the default ‘Offline’ message.

Might be worth double checking your member settings to be sure that basic online view is set as you desire, but think that should do the trick!

    Hi, Simon,

It looks like you had the guest member group set to “no” for viewing the site when it’s online.  Flipping that lets visitors see the site.

    Can you confirm?
