Having tons of problems uploading images in the CP.

Whenever I upload image it seems to upload fine when I go back to the entry I don’t see a thumb of the image but rather a blank icon and

    undefined

Also getting a lot of this error if a have debugging on when visiting page

    A PHP Error was encountered

    Severity: Warning

Message: date_default_timezone_get() [function.date-default-timezone-get]: It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/New_York' for 'EDT/-4.0/DST' instead

    Filename: libraries/Core.php

    Line Number: 277

    A PHP Error was encountered

    Severity: Warning

Message: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /space/home/users/domain/system/codeigniter/system/core/Exceptions.php:170)

    Filename: libraries/Functions.php

    Line Number: 749

I thought updating from 2.1.3 to 2.2 would solve this problem but whenever I attempt to update all I see is PHP errors like the ones above.

Any ideas on what this is related to? driving me and the client crazy and site was rock solid and then this started out of nowhere.

    Hi firstarsbrnwhite,

Regarding your error.Have you installed EE on a local development server or through a hosting provider? You server’s time zone needs to be set in php.ini - date.timezone = “Your/Timezone” If you are using a hosting provider, they should be able to assist you with this.

Can you also run our Server Wizard to see if you have the correct library (GD) for PHP to do your thumbnailing

I am going to see what the server wizard pulls up. Thing thats strange is this site has been working fine for a while on 2.1.3 which I had no problems with. Then all the sudden the thumbs were coming up as undefined. Channel images is still working fine and pdf uploads are working fine as well.

    Hi firstarsbrnwhite,

Just a couple of questions and observations whilst you check the server wizard and ask your host about what John mentioned above.

    Observation :
Site was fine but now comes up with errors.

This usually means something has changed on the server at some point. If you haven’t changed anything then it could well be a setting on the hosts side. It would be best to get in touch with them and let them know the date that this all started happening as then they may be able to pin it down for you.

    Question :
You are uploading images in the control panel. I was just wondering what you are using to do this? You mentioned Channel Images above but what method are you having the problems with?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Just plain ol file fieldtype set to images only. If I change this to channel images it does upload the one image fine but there are already hundreds of thumbs created from the file fieldtype and I don’t want the existing files to get lost somewhere.

Host says there was no changes made. hmm

    Hi firstarsbrnwhite,

Were you able to check that your timezone is set correctly as mentioned by John in the post above?

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi firstarsbrnwhite,

As your image states you don’t have the full set of GD2 image functions installed on your server. You might like to ask your host if they can install those for you. Hopefully that will then get rid of the problems.

    Thanks,

    Mark
