Because this is only my second EE site and first expierence with MSM I believe that my issues are user related.  I believe that I am on 2.2.1.

The Symptom is that when I try to go and log into the control panel of the stock install i enter my login and it does not fail it just reloads the authentication page rathern than CP.  It does the same thing even if I enter a bogous login.

Other information is that when i use the “forgot password” link and enter my email. i do get the email but the link it sends me to the new MSM site login area which when clicked shows a white screen saying

“Your system folder path does not appear to be set correctly. Please open the following file and correct this: admin.php”

I think that if i could get back to the admin>> general settings i would be able to undo whatever i did.  But I still not understand how to get MSM setup so that the templates and assets reside on the MSM sites webspace.

    Thanks for your help.

    Howdy group,

Would anyone have any advice?  I have combed through the other posts and I have still not found a solution that works.  I do not know how to get into the admin>>general settings with out going through the CP.  Any advice would be much appreciated.

I would really rather not have to start over.  But even knowing for sure that I need to would be a step in the right direction.

    Hello Rob,

Let’s see if we can get this going in the right direction. Have you read through Setting up Domains and Subdomains? Follow steps 3 and 4 specifically and make sure that each sites index.php and admin.php files are properly configured. The variables in those files should override what you have entered in the CP and allow you to login again.

    Cheers,

    Dan, thanks for your response.

I have been using that very doc but when in doubt start over and try again.  And thanks to your words of wisdom and clearnig the cash i can get in to the CP from domain 2, but now i can not get in via domain 1.  This is the exact opposite situation that I was in about 12 hours ago.  But hey the last 12 hours and I could not get in at all.  Any ideas on the setting that affects that?

Should the MSM commented out sections be filled in for the main install site?  I have tried toggleing them on and off and when I get into CP ( from domain 2) it gives me the warning about the changed index.php files, it never mentions anything about the admin.php is that how it is supposed to be?

Also as far as the big picture for for this my first MSM expierence would you also comment on my current implamentation plan? and if I am not doing it how most people do it let me know i am not trying to do anything daring here 😊

Currently I am with 1and1 hosting and I have a seperate “webspace” for domain 1 and 2 for each site with DNS pointing to the respective “webspace”. Both webspaces are in the same account.

For Domain 1 I have saved all of the templates as files, and they are on webspace 1.  I have saved all of domain 2’s templates in the same template folder level on webspace 1.  Is that the way to go right????

Where are all of the CSS, JS, images ect and assets of domain 2 suppsoed to go?  webspace #1 like the templates?

Dan thanks again for your help.

    Rob,

Being able to log in to one CP is a step in the right direction 😊

Should the MSM commented out sections be filled in for the main install site?  I have tried toggleing them on and off and when I get into CP ( from domain 2) it gives me the warning about the changed index.php files, it never mentions anything about the admin.php is that how it is supposed to be?

Each site’s index.php and admin.php files need to have the MSM values for their respective site’s in place.

Currently I am with 1and1 hosting and I have a seperate “webspace” for domain 1 and 2 for each site with DNS pointing to the respective “webspace”. Both webspaces are in the same account.

As long as the same account keeps the “webspaces” in the same folder structure, so that sub-sites have access to the main install’s /system directory.

For Domain 1 I have saved all of the templates as files, and they are on webspace 1.  I have saved all of domain 2’s templates in the same template folder level on webspace 1.  Is that the way to go right????

That’s OK, but you could also set up a template directory in each site’s folder.

Where are all of the CSS, JS, images ect and assets of domain 2 suppsoed to go?  webspace #1 like the templates?

Personally, I would keep those assets in the same folder as the site they belong to.

I hope this helps clarify some of the more intricate parts of MSM.

    Cheers,

    Dan,

Thanks again your clarity of explanations have made me even happier to be an EE customer.  Both MSM CP’s are up and running and I understand how to separate out the two sites and they are working great.

    Case closed
