Having used Windows all my life, I never thought I would miss Explorer.. But I really am beginning to miss it.

I ended up grabbing TotalFinder and that makes things a bit better, but it doesn’t really solve many of the issues I’ve had with Finder, only adds more to the feature set.

I’ve tried Forklift and that is looking pretty sweet. I know Transmit is an FTP application, but do people use it as a file browser as well?

What do you use? I’m always looking to add more “flow” into my workflow!

Path Finder is popular and extremely customizable (at least it was last time I tried it out).

I actually like the basic finder so I just stick with it.  The alternate finder solutions always feel overly complicated to me.

I like the features of Path Finder, but it looks a bit on the heavy side. I’ve had Forklift installed for a while and am quite amazed at the powers and ease of use! Makes file management far more easier!

That said, for all your Mac users out there: Is there some way to bind a key to an action, so for example, everytime I drag a file, is there some script or function I can assign to always have the option key pressed?

    Hi Danny,

Just reading this and I’m wondering exactly what it is that you’re trying to do here?

What I mean by that is why can’t you just hold the option key?

Sorry I’m probably missing something obvious here as I’ve never really used Windows so don’t really know what the differences are.

i also don’t know what the problem actually is. I can do more with finder than with explorer? totalfinder is the only missing like for tabs etc.

whats something you can do in explorer but not finder?

I’m actually quite curious to hear what functionality you’re trying to duplicate on the Mac OS side. I’m familiar with both, but haven’t found Finder overly lacking. There’s likely simple methods to accomplish your goals (that may have been over-looked).
