Add Different Member Groups to Statuses?

Maybe simple, maybe not. Am finding that EE is morphing over time and “instructions” change. Hope a correct statement.

Am taking Ryan’s tutorial (he’s been extreemly helpful so far) and just purchased EE:

    v2.2.2 - Build: date 20110801

The tutorial asks that you create status groups - which I do under the Admin account. The rights assignments for these “statuses” are created for “Members”. The Admin is not a member of the “Member” group - so anything assigned and applied cannot be seen by the Admin?

I must be doing something wrong - or, must one create a non-admin account to add content and become a “Member.

I can see how powerful the rights assignments can be, if used and applied properly. But - when creating the site - what are best practices?

I do not see any way to add other Membership Groups to a Status - not in the version I have. Might I have installed something wrong? Am I not looking in the right place within the control panel?

I don’t know a lot about previous versions - but Ryan’s tutorials are based off a slightly older version - and quite honestly - it looks a lot easier.

Anyway - if someone can help me get past this - I can continue learning EE.

    Thank you much -

    Hi scnetworks,

When you are editing or creating a status, you should see a list of member groups (that have access to post) listed under the status so that you can choose which ones can change an entry to that status.

This doesn’t give viewing access, just the ability to set content to that status.

    Does the attached screenshot help?

    Lisa,

Thank you very much for the reply. I now understand what the Status Membership role does more, but I do not see how to add different (more) membership groups to a status. Is this an easy matter?

    Thanks - Steve.

    Hi, Steve -

Did you choose to edit the status so that you see those member group radio buttons? If you can send a screenshot of what you are seeing, that would help me a great deal in guiding you. =)

    Thanks!

    Hi Lisa,

Question - I see many of my problems / issues as being with working with the latest version of EE, and the tutorials (both Ryan’s and the online EE’s) point to a slightly older version than I just purchased and installed, and have different options in the CP shown. Would there be any way to install an earlier version?

Sorry having so many issues - so many I would not mind hiring a professional. Any recommendations of anyone to work on a simple Membership site?

    Thank you - Steve.

    Hi Steve,

    Hi Lisa,

Whilst Ryans tutorials are excellent they will indeed have been written using an older version of ExpressionEngine so the screenshots will unfortunately be different there.

As for the ExpressionEngine documentation that should be up to date although I admit that we are aware of a few areas where it still needs to be updated to bring it into line with the latest version.

Would there be any way to install an earlier version?

The only ‘earlier’ version that you can download would be 1.x by selecting that option when you go to download 2.2.2. I don’t think that will help in your situation here though due to it being a much older version than the one you are now working on.

Sorry having so many issues - so many I would not mind hiring a professional. Any recommendations of anyone to work on a simple Membership site?

No need to apologise at all. I’m afraid I can’t give any direct recommendations on 3rd party developers but you could take a look at the Pro Network and contact someone there if that’s the way you decide to go.

That said are you still having trouble with statuses? If so then please do let us know and we can walk you through it step by step if and where the documentation isn’t able to do so.

    Thanks,

    Mark

    Hi Mark,

I stopped Ryan’s tutorials for a while and am now back. I do need help with a couple things that I think should be straight forward.

The first is this Statuses thing. Very important am sure. Let’s figure this one out if we can. I have installed EE 2.2.2 off the root of a site that I want to bring over - IE:

    http://www.mysite.com/ee

I do not see how to choose any other “memberships” to Statuses. Also, when I apply a status to a channel - it does not stick/ work. Only Open & Close seem to work.

I’m happy to privately give you the credentials if you want to take an experts look. Is all very confusing to me.

    Thank you,

    Steve.

    Hi Steve,

Could you check in Admin > Channel Administration > Channels > Edit Groups (Your Channel Name)

and check that you have a status group selected there please.

If you don’t then if you could select one and see if that gets rid of any of the problems here and post back with your findings.

    Thanks,

    Mark
