    Hi there,

    does anyone also experience the problem that sending an image via the iPhone’s photo library (photo library > select an image > send via email > in iOS Mail add email address, subject and text > send) creates a post with the text from the email (subject as title, message as body, etc.) but does not transfer the image to the file manager and also does not publish the image within the blog post? On the other hand, sending images through Apple Mail (OSX) works perfectly ...

    Is this just an issue with the way how the image is attached to the email in iOS or is this something that can be fixed directly in EE?

    EE version: 2.2.2 - Build: 20110801
    Moblog version: 3.1
    iOS version: 4.3.5

    Thanks!

    Hi moodanizer,

    Welcome to the ExpressionEngine forums!

    I don’t have an iPhone to test with, but if you save the image in question and post it from Apple Mail, does it work then? In other words, seeing if it might be the size of the image, etc. that might be part of the issue.

    Hi Sue,

    I’ve tested the following:

    Original size (ca. 1.4 MB)
    - OSX -> Mail: image + text -> Entry: published + image
    - OSX -> Mail: image, no text -> Entry: published, no image
    - iOS -> Mail: image + text -> Entry: published, no image
    - iOS -> Mail: image, no text -> Entry: not published
    - OWA (Outlook Web Access) -> Mail: image, no text -> Entry: not published
    - OWA -> Mail: image + text -> Entry: published + image

    Medium size (ca. 150 KB)
    - OSX -> Mail: image + text -> Entry: published + image
    - OSX -> Mail: image, no text -> Entry: published, no image
    - iOS -> Mail: image + text -> Entry: published, no image
    - iOS -> Mail: image, no text -> Entry: not published

    In all cases where an entry was published without the image (or no entry at all) there was also no image file in the upload folder on the server.

    When I open the emails sent via iOS/OSX in Outlook on a Windows PC I can see the following results:

    - iOS -> Mail: image + text (after image) -> image and text are attached to the email (no email text body)
    - iOS -> Mail: image + text (before and after image) -> image and text after the image are attached to the email. Text before the image is shown as email text body.
    - iOS -> Mail: text (no image) -> text is shown as email text body
    - OSX -> Mail: image + text -> image is attached to the email, text is shown as email text body

    Any ideas how this can be fixed? Is there anybody else experiencing the same issues?

    Thanks,
    Olli

    Hi John,

    thanks! Do you already have an idea what causes the problem and how to solve this “bug”?

    Hi Olli,

    Be on the lookout for an email from me. I’d like to perform some test posts directly against your EE installation if that’s alright with you!

    Thanks for the login information, Olli.

    I think I’m actually having more of struggle here than you. When I email the moblog email from Mail.app in OS X, emails with images consistently have those images added to the file manager, but regardless of image presence or not, I can’t get Moblog to publish any entries.

    This is all from me testing Moblog using only Mail.app on OS X. Have you noticed this oddity? I want to make sure we’re on the same page before trying to troubleshoot your issue specifically.

    Yes, I’m noticing the same problem. I’d also be ok with testing on a fresh installation of EE to solve the problem(s) ...

    Yes, let’s try that. Set up a fresh installation of EE with Moblog and everything necessary to make Moblog work correctly, including a different email address if at all possible. When you’ve got that, let us know and we’ll go from there.

    Done & already sent you an email with the new access details. Now using Gmail as incoming content source.

    Publishing entries through the moblog module works again. The problem with iOS image attachments remains the same.

    Thanks for your help. Really appreciate it!

    Thanks for doing that, Olli. I’ve got at least one other support thread that’s involving the same issue, so we’re combining those issues together and I’ve escalated it to our dev team so that we can get to the bottom of it. It looks like the iPhone includes images in messages in a different way than desktop clients, so I want our devs to look at it to see if that might be why Moblog is ignoring images sent from the iPhone.

    Thanks for your patience!

    I’m embarrased how long it took me to figure this out- boiled down to a case sensitive issue.

    I’ve reported as a bug https://support.ellislab.com/bugs/detail/16650, it’s fixed up for the next release, and the manual fix is included in the bug report.

    Thanks a ton of the test setup, Olli.  It helped a lot.  (And I manually fixed the files on your test site.  You can just copy over mod.moblog.php anywhere else you need it or fix it manually as per the bug report.)

    Looks like Robin got the fix applied to Olli’s site and included in the next release of EE.

    Thanks for your patience on this one, Olli! Let us know if we can help again in the future.
