I need to build a site and am undecided wether to use EE or another CMS.

I’d be grateful if anyone can tell me if EE can handle the following functionlaity

1. website features a number of products (lets call them books)
2. users can search the website
3. they can purchase books through the site
4. purchsers (registered users) can review books

5. publishers can register and add their books for sale

I’ve been looking at various add ons and some kind of directory (hotel, college etc) would probably have 90% of the required functionality. Can anyone suggest such an addon too?

This functionality is perfect for ExpressionEngine. I would start by deciding what e-commerce functionality I needed. There are several really good carts on the market for EE. Take a look at this link.

Search is native functionality. You can read more about it in our docs.

For reviews there are a number of add-ons for ratings.
