I moved an old site to another server. After a raft of problems I created a new database and cut and pasted the old templates and posts (it was a small site) but now all links only go to the home page. Everything else seems to work fine but I cannot figure this out.

    Please advise. Thanks in advance.

Hi, dekalog6. Sorry you’re experiencing problems. When you say that links are redirecting to the main page, do you mean that no matter what the url is, it just goes to the main page? One cause of this can be that your new server now requires you to use index.php? instead of index.php - forcing query strings. If you add a question mark in your urls after index.php, does that work?

Yes, that is what’s happening. I create pages in EE put links on the home page as navigation but clicking on them just goes to the home page. Adding the ? after index.php does not make any difference.

    Hi, dekalog6 -

Have a look at this FAQ, that should help you get up and running.

    Hi,

I have done everything in the FAQ but that problem still persists.

Hi, dekalog6 - do you have a link to the site that we can see?

    Thanks!

    Hi, dekalog6 -

In index.php in your root directory, did you try changing the qtype to 1?

    Thank you!

I set it to 2 as per the FAQ, I just changed it to 1 but has no effect.

    Hi, dekalog6 -

I had a look, you’ll see I made a template group ‘ellislab’ with my test code in its index.

That template wasn’t working, but it did work once I changed both qtype to 2 and force query strings to ‘yes’ in Admin >  Output and Debugging Preferences.

The rest of your templates should now work and you can delete the template group I created for testing.

Have a look and let me know, thanks!

    Hi Lisa,

Thank you for looking into this for me but I am not getting the proper result. When I try accessing your page I still only get the home page.
For instance when I go to http://nickrockel.com/index.php/ellislab/index
I still get the current home page not yours.

    Hi, dekalog6 -

You need to use the question mark in the URL:

    http://nickrockel.com/index.php?/ellislab/index

    works. =)

It works on yours but it still doesn’t work on my pages even with the “?”

The reduction test does show that EE is working; I did notice that your weblog entries tags are both forcing an entry_id and dynamic=“off”.

i’d recommend building up the test page I built to your site design, and slowly adding in pieces until you find out where it is not working.  that will help you isolate the cause and fix up the issue.

... but I’d definitely start with those parameters, as they will stop your template from being dynamic.  Have you read The Importance of Semantics to understand how the weblog entries tag works with the URL?
