    Hello,

I’ve run into a bit of an issue with a site. All of a sudden when clicking on a content page to edit it in the back end I’m given a 500 error (or a white screen in Firefox) and can’t edit the content at all.

No settings have been changed at all. Just all of a sudden pages can’t be edited. I have full range of control with the rest of the CMS save for editing content.

    Thoughts?
    Need more info?
    Help?

    Thanks!
    Robb

    Hi there Robb,

    Welcome to the Forums!

More info is always welcome, but let’s start with what version of ExpressionEngine are you running? And Error 500 is a generic server related error. Can you check with your hosting provider and see if they have made any changes? Generally the host is the culprit when things break and *you* haven’t made any changes.

    Cheers,

    @Robb,

Did you ever solve this problem? I’m experiencing the exact same problem after moving a website to an other server. Everything is working fine except for adding and editing content.

    Thanks!

    Hi James,

Robb never got back to us after the initial post.

I’ll be happy to do what I can to get you up and running though. I must say again that error 500 can be a tough one to sort out. It provides very little information for us to troubleshoot against.

Can you get in touch with your host to see what differences there are between your new server and your old server?

Are you using .htaccess at all?

Do you see the error in other parts of the Control Panel?

Any additional information you can provide will be very helpful.

    Thanks!

    Hi Dan,

I already solved this problem. I moved a website to an other server and then ran an update to ee 2.4. After that I began to receive the 500 error.
To solve the problem I first flushed the cache and reloaded the page. I then got a sql error about exp_comments. It turned out to be a bug in ee 2.4. Activating the comments module helped me out.

    Thank you for your reply!

    James,

Glad to see you got it all resolved by yourself. Is there anything else I can assist you with?
