    Hello All,

Would there be a reason why when writing an entry into the Textarea of a custom fields for a channel, that the tags would just disappear.  Half way through the entry?

Essentially the text is being formatted correctly, and then the system ceases to wrap text in tags.

This revealed when I inspect the source through Safari or Mozilla of the rendered entry.

I have <h1>, <h2>, <h3> as well as <ul> in the entry.  Some <strong> as well.  All of which I use through the formatting buttons while writing either in “write mode” or simply in the regular Textarea in the “edit entry” screen.

The Textarea is set to accept XHTML be default.

This one has me baffled, particularly when previous entries work just fine.

    Thank you.

I am currently running the basic install - no third party add-ons.

    cacampbell,

Can you do a character count and tell me how much text you are adding to the field? Include all the markup as part of the count.

Can you perhaps give us the text that you are entering so we can test ourselves or is there nothign extraordinary about it?

Can you confirm with your host if you have any mod security restriction

    Hello John,

    Caracter count is 5443

Here is the text with formatting I have entered into the Textarea:

    <h2>The CCA - The Controlled Carbohydrate Approach</h2>

<p>Here we go again, more talk about this "Cave Man" Diet…</p>

    <p>Well, not really.</p>

<p>I am going to attempt to appeal to your good sense, and although I have included an image of prehistoric cave art at the top of this article, we don't really need to go that far back to understand where the Second Task and the CCA is coming from.</p>

<p>You see, technology is a very powerful agent of change. I would argue that if our indomitable will to push boundaries is the catalyst, our technology is the preferred agent. It has enabled us to do the "heavy lifting" previously thought unimaginable.</p>

<blockquote><p>"We become what we behold…we shape our tools, and therefore our tools shape us." -- Marshall McLuhan</p>
    </blockquote>

<p>Now, I am not going to go into a dissertation on human evolution and the rise of the industrial and technology complexes, it is obviously an enormous subject.</p>

<p>I will however, keep this focused on the subject of optimal human nutrition.</p>

<p>Our innovation and near endless exploration has fostered a nutritional landscape that in no way resembles that of our grandparents, let alone our predecessors.</p>

<p>And that is what the CCA is really about, reestablishing our dietary boundaries in a way that fits with our ancestral underpinnings.</p>

<p>While at the same time allowing us to live in a modern world.</p>

    <h2>The Second Task</h2>

<p>I want you to clearly establish <strong>Three "Free" Meals</strong>. For most of you, these meals will undoubtedly be grain, starch or flour-based.</p>

    <p>https://ellislab.com/asset/images/team-photo/french-bakery-breads-and-pastries.jpg</p>

<p>We have overwhelming evidence to suggest that advent of grain consumption was concomitant with the advent of agriculture and the domestication of livestock - approximately 11,000 years ago in what was known as Mesopotamia including ancient Assyria and Sumer. For those interested in geography, this area is now known as Iraq.</p>

<p>The point is this though, we have dramatically changed our nutritional landscape, however our genetic underpinnings remain largely unchanged.</p>

<p>The types of foods that create the most complication for this type of scenario are grain and flour-based carbohydrates, as well as, most obviously, refined sugar.</p>

    <h2>The "Free" Meal</h2>

    <p>https://ellislab.com/asset/images/team-photo/photo_4.JPG</p>

<p>The goal of the Second Task is to clearly define your <strong>Three Free Meals</strong>.</p>

<h3>The primary functions of the Free Meal are:</h3>

    <p><ul><br />
    <li>Provide a necessary respite from a CCA approach</li><br />
<li>Clearly establish enjoyable foods that are not necessarily conducive to your goals</li><br />
<li>Intentionally, yes intentionally, spike you insulin levels</li><br />
    <li>Intentionally, yes intentionally, reload glycogen stores</li><br />
<li>Regain control over when you decide to deviate from the CCA</li><br />
    </ul></p>

<p>However, we are going to keep a very tight reign on when we use these meals and we want to document how and when they go down. Photos are imperative.</p>

    <p>https://ellislab.com/asset/images/team-photo/photo_11.JPG</p>

    <h3>Purposes of the FREE MEAL:</h3>

    <p><ul><br />
    <li>Re-Load and Shock the Insulin Receptors.</li><br />
<li>Up-regulate Thyroid activity and increase conversion of Thyroid hormones to their active state <—increasing heat production.</li><br />
    <li>Provide a necessary respite from an otherwise non-existent sugar/grain/flour/starch approach.</li><br />
    </ul></p>

<h3>Examples of a Free Meal may include, but may not be limited to, the following:</h3>

    <p><ul><br />
    <li>Pasta</li><br />
    <li>Pizza</li><br />
    <li>Burgers with fries (frites)</li><br />
    <li>Breads and </li><br />
    <li>Potatoes - and all their myriad forms</li><br />
<li>Muffins, Scones, Cake, Cookies, Crackers, et cetera…</li><br />
    </ul></p>

    <h2>The Rules of Engagement</h2>

    <p><ul><br />
<li>Each Free Meal may only be taken on a Training Day - in this sense it is a reward-based system</li><br />
<li>The Goal is to take the Free Meal within 90 minutes of training</li><br />
<li>The Free Meals must be rotated each week. If you have chosen Pizza as one of your “Free” Meals, do NOT eat pizza three times per week</li><br />
<li>You are permitted THREE Free Meals per week.</li><br />
    </ul></p>

<h3>Your Three Free Meals will account for approximately 10% of your week’s total meals</h3>

<p>If you adhere to 4 meals per day, for 7 days. You have a total of 28 meals per week.</p>

<p>So first, please let me know what they are.</p>

<h2>Nutrition at all other times will be relegated to the realm of:</h2>

    <p><ul><br />
<li>Lean Protein - 25-30g per serving - this is the size of the palm of your hand </li><br />
    <li>Vegetables with reckless abandon</li><br />
    <li>Nuts, seeds, healthy fats</li><br />
    <li>Green Drinks</li><br />
    <li>Minimal fruit</li><br />
    <li>Very high water intake</li><br />
    </ul></p>

    <p><h1>Time to Take Action!</h1><br />
Please complete this task <strong>each day, for the next two weeks</strong>, while <a href="/coaching/view/the_first_task">layering it upon the First Task.</a></p>

<p>Provide an update of your progress in your <strong>Private Coaching Log.</strong></p>

    <h3>Private Coaching Logs:</h3>

    <p><a href="http://myodesign.com/forums/viewforum/4/">The Men's Group</a></p>

    <p><a href="http://myodesign.com/forums/viewforum/22/">The Women's Group</a></p>

<p>Again, I want you to log in each day for the following two weeks and notify your Coach that you have completed the First Task.</p>

<p>Good luck and get to it!

I should mention that the control panel fails to insert proper line breaks or recognise proper tags after the very last <h1> I use in the text.

I don’t believe I have any mod security restrictions…. I am hosted on EngineHosting.

    Hello cacampbell,

Nothing looks particularly out of line with your markup. I tried it on my test installation, and everything rendered just fine.

You say that “previous entries work just fine”. I wonder if you could expand on that a bit. Help us narrow down exactly the conditions necessary on your own system for this to happen.

Also, you say this happens “when writing an entry”. Do you mean while you’re in the middle of composition? Or does this happen after you publish an entry, it renders to the live page this way, and pulling the entry back up to edit reveals that it didn’t save the markup properly?

    Hello Kevin,

Thank you for the response.  Very quirky indeed but the problem seems to have resolved itself.

    Here is what I did:

I went to edit the entry via the control panel.

I cut all the <ul> elements out, and placed them at the bottom of the entry and saved the change.

This, for some reason, resolved the odd lack of tags.

I then cut and paste, one by one, each <ul> elements and placed them back in their order, saving each “paste” as I went.

And lo and behold, the entry is now rendering properly…. I don’t know what to make of it.  But it now works.

It makes little sense to me, and I had begun to go blind looking over my markup for some type of error that just wasn’t revealing itself.

When I say “previous entries work” - I mean to say that other blog posts and articles I have written, with similar use of <h*> tags, images, et cetera… all seem to render properly.  This was the only entry that seemed to be giving me trouble.

And also, I should say no, the problem was only revealing itself once I had actually published the writing to the field and viewed the entry on my website via my browser (Safari).

So there you have it.  The problem is resolved however with little reason as to why…

    Curious.
