Please help!  I recently attempted an upgrade from 2.1 to 2.2.2 and got all kinds of errors after a seemingly smooth update. So, I decided to roll back and begin again.

Fortunately, I have back ups of everything and attempted to rollback as suggested in the documentation. Site running properly, but now I cannot login as Super Admin. Ugh!

I looked at the FAQs and unfortunately have no way to register as a new member. I am the only Admin for this particular site. How do I get back in?

    Thanks.

    Nevermind.

After some further investigating, I came across the PHP errors in my original upgrade - the Timezone PHP error referenced here. Fixed. Upgrade successful and I’m back in my control panel.

However, i am still curious about my original post, if there’s no way to register a new member via the external site and the Super Admin is locked out, how is the password reset or access gained?

    Andy,

What was the behavior when you were trying to log in?
Was the page refreshing or were you getting an error?

If the page was refreshing it would have probably only took the addition of a few variables in your config.php file to get you up and running.
Either that or a full clearout of your browsers cache and cookies

You would never really need to create a new member in this situation

    John,

Thanks for your reply. As I said, all is good again, but this little incident has given rise to the lockout question.

I was getting the error (incorrect username or password, which appears directly above the login fields) when I attempted to login. I did clear my cache, which occurred to me. I also tried switching browsers. Both to no avail. And, yes, the page was refreshing.

Is it the session ID or some sort of session encryption that it associates with the login? Does it write that to the database each time, or is it simply stored in one’s browser? You mentioned an edit to the config.php file. That sounds as if it might have fixed it.

    What would that process entail?

The session ID just tracks your login for that session, yes it’s stored in the database.

As for regaining access if you’ve lost superadmin access - that depends what error you’re receiving, and other symptoms as well.  It’s hard to answer that in this abstract context.
