    Hi folks,

I am currently looking at upgrading a clients install of EE from the early 2.0 Beta to the latest version (if possible), How painless will this possibly be? Is it too much of a leap between versions? Can anyone give some solid tips on the best route to take, your advice (as always) would be massively appreciated,

    thanks in advance

    Hi, slimboyfatz35.

How many third party add-ons do you have? Make sure you have updated versions of those addons, and that you have a good export of your database before attempting to upgrade. Does that help?

    Hi Sue,

I have a handful of 3rd party add-ons (ImgSizer, LiveLook etc..), just wanted a little more advice on what’s involved as it such a big leap between versions!!

    Hey slimboyfatz35,

That is certainly a loaded question! So there are a few key points to keep in mind.

    1. BACKUP. EVERYTHING. Pretty obvious step, but worth emphasizing. Backup ALL your files, AND your database. That way if things go awry, you’re not hung out to dry.

    2. Update on a sub-domain on a different database first. That way, you can get an idea for what obstacles may present themselves when updating the live site.

    3. Update every addon you have. Every last one of them. If there is one thing I tend to see, it’s an out of date addon causing a developer to go insane and waste time.

    4. Check specific version notes outlined for any oddities that may arise.

    5. And finally follow the update instructions to a tee.

Since you’re already on EE 2, I don’t see it as being as big an issue as going from 1.x to 2.x, but still, always better to have a plan in case things get funky.

And, when in the process, if you come across any issues, feel free to post them up here on the forums.

Hope I didn’t scare you off in wanting to update (because I totally recommend it), but, I just want to inform you of what *could* happen. It could go perfectly smooth and flawless, which would be awesome. But, for the “if"s and “could"s, I figured I’d prepare you as best I could.

Does that make it a little clearer?

    Thanks slimboyfatz35!

    slimboyfatz35,

No problems. I’ll close this thread out but if you run into any issue during the upgrade feel free to start a new thread if you have any questions
