This issue seems to be similar to this resolved bug https://support.ellislab.com/bugs/detail/11246/ from a previous version.

I have a Text Input field that has a button to call up the File Manager which works as expected. If I upload an image and “use it” the File Manager will close as it should, but the field will be left blank. I get the same result with an image that was previously uploaded to the server, however if the file is a document type (tried .doc and .pdf) the File Manager closes and the field is populated with a link to the file.

    Hi, Spazsquatch.

With a VERY generic setup (I have a few items such as Wygwam and Playa), I can’t replicate the problem you’re having with adding .jpg pictures to a text input field. See the attached screenshot.

So we’ll need to have you try with your extensions disabled temporarily to see if anything there is preventing the addition of the image link.

I disabled Extensions but it had no effect. I don’t need to disable all add-ons do I?

It occurred to me that since it works for documents but not images that the problem is probably javascript related so I kicked open the error console and found the following when trying to insert an image.

    Failed to load resource: cancelled
    /eesys/index.php?S=7da5ac4726797fb3aa6cac7c815cefe76a81cc14&D=cp&C=content_files_modal

    Failed to load resource: cancelled
    /favicon.ico

Failed to load resource: cannot decode raw data
    /eesys/index.php?S=7da5ac4726797fb3aa6cac7c815cefe76a81cc14&D=cp&C=javascript&M=combo_load&ui=datepicker,resizable,draggable,droppable&plugin=scrollable,scrollable.navigator,ee_filebrowser,ee_fileuploader,tmpl,markitup,toolbox.expose,overlay,ee_url_title&file=json2,cp/publish,cp/publish_tabs,cp/publish_admin&v=1310487849:522

TypeError: Result of expression 'EE.filebrowser.image_tag' [undefined] is not an object.

I see that “content_files_modal” is a file in controllers/cp so I went to verify that the file was there, it was. I replaced the file on the server with the one on my local system in case the file had been corrupted during transfer. Still the same result.

Does that trigger any ideas? I can arrange access to the server if need be.

Are things working OK on your local install?

Sorry, it’s not a local install just the archive on my local system.

    Hi Spazsquatch,

With javascript issues in the CP, the first troubleshooting step is to make sure you have the most up-to-date themes folder. To do so…

    1. Get a fresh download of EE 2.2.1 from the downloads page. Change the name of the themes folder to themes_new.
    2. Upload themes_new to the web root directory for your ExpressionEngine installation.
    3. Make sure any modifications that were made to themes are copied over to themes_new. (additions to third_party, cp_themes, etc.)
    4. Rename the themes folder to themes_old.
    5. Rename the themes_new folder to themes.
    6. Clear your browser’s cache and try again.

Does that take care of the problem?

I updated the themes folder and still have the same behaviour. It works for documents but not images.

Hi, Spazsquatch. While this isn’t related to EE, have you tried adding a favicon.ico file? What about temporarily disabling your extensions via the control panel to make sure they aren’t affecting things.
