Login across several subdomains

    Hiya,

I’m having a small issue which is related to this post: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/193204/

The subdomains are there just for aesthetic reasons, but now just now I noticed that when I log in to the backend (http://domain.com/) I don’t get logged into the frontend on another subdomain (http://blog.domain.com/).

I’ve tried setting the $config[‘cookie_domain’] = ‘.domain.com’; but only resulted in me not being able to login at all unless I accessed the with http://www.domain.com.

    Anyone bumped into this before?

    Regards,
    Wouter

Wouter, Greg is working on some MSM bugs right now.. I’m not sure if this is included with what he’s working on. What you’re describing is a bit different from what cookie_domain is normally used for. I’ll clarify.

    Hi Sue,

In this case I’m not using MSM. It’s just a single site where the different sections accessed through a subdomain. I’ll dig into the source a bit more to see if I can figure out what is happening.

    Hi, Wouter,

Does this change at all if you login under the front-end? Does that give you access to the back-end?

And are you using “cookies only” for both admin and user session types?

    Hiya,

Would’ve been nice if I had posted this sooner, but I was able to make it work. Setting cookie_domain to ‘.domain.com’ did work, but for some reason it didn’t the first time I tried it.

So I’m all settled, but thanks for the follow-up.

Glad you got it working, Wouter!  Whenever you change cookie settings, it’s best to logout and login again.  Not sure if that might have been the difference?

In any case, if anything else comes up, you know where we are. =)
