I’ve created a multi-lingual channel where my custom fields are setup as follows:

    description_en - English description
    description_fr - French description
    description_ar - Arabic description
    description_ch - Chinese description

When I populate the fields with their proper language, the Arabic and Chinese content gets stripped out of the fields and doesn’t get saved.  The English and French text saves fine.  It looks like the special letter characters are causing the problem.  Has anyone encountered this issue before?

    Test Code:
    description_en - Hello Sir
    description_fr - bonjour monsieur
    description_ar - مرحبا يا سيدي
    description_ch - 你好先生

    EE 2.1.3 build:20101220
    php 5.3
    mysql collation: utf8_general_ci

Well, I did some further testing and when I downgraded PHP to version 5.2.17 all languages saved correctly.  Does anyone know what the issue is with PHP 5.3.5?

    Hi Nate,

What type of custom fields were they?

Is this on MAMP or a live server

Can you try the following suggestion please

Can you open config.php and set

    $config['charset'] = "utf-8";

(make it lowercase) and see if that has any affect?
