    Hiya,

Hopefully an obvious answer to this one that I’m just missing due to not having had any sleep for the past 72 hours!

I have been re-designing a site for a client and they just pointed their A-Record for www across to our server. All fine and dandy. I updated the domain administrator from the development domain name of example.ourserver.com to their domain name example.com and everything went wrong with that as Plesk reported that I only had 2MB of webspace being used whereas there was actually over 450MB.

To get around this I renamed that domain back again and created a brand new one. I then uploaded all the backed up FTP files, created a brand new database with completely different login credentials and changed the information in the config.php file to reflect this.

Now when I visit the control panel to login it is un-styled as I would expect it to be as paths are not yet right however if I try to login it won’t let me. I just get the message :

The username you submitted was not found in the database

I’ve checked now around 20 times and it most definitely is in the database and I am putting it in correct to the control panel login fields but it just keeps on coming up with the same message every time.

I’ve never had this problem before when copying files and databases across before so this has really got me stumped although as I mentioned it could be due to the lack of sleep.

Any help on this though would be massively appreciated as this is a site for a very large American company and it needs to go live by Monday so time is most definitely of the most importance on this one I’m afraid.

Thanks for any help on this.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Oh yes meant to mention. I’ve run the system > utilities > dbtest.php file and all is connecting fine.

I can send across all FTP, database etc details if needed on this one as I really don’t understand what’s going on here.

    Okay an update here.

I had tried to update some of the existing database export to change example.ourserver.com to example.com. I’ve now changed that back and re-imported the database in a completely new database and have been able to get in to the control panel.

I used Deeploy Helper to change all the paths that need changing and most things are now working. The only problem I have is that in the exp_weblog_data table there are a lot of entries that have images in them that are pointing to example.ourserver.com/image_name.jpg type URLs.

Can I do a find and replace on that table and re-import this to the database overwriting what’s already there without any problems?

I had read on the forums somewhere that the problem I had might have been due to the exp_sites table not being the same length or something due to having done that original find and replace but hopefully changing the exp_weblog_data table shouldn’t affect that should it?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Well as this is a really urgent site move that needs to be completed immediately I tried a find and replace on the exp_weblog_data table and changed all the paths there and overwrote this table in the database and it seems like everything is working that should be so far.

Would love to hear back from someone though to see if I’ve missed anything else that might need to be changed here and whether or not the exp_sites table is now affected or not and if any of this is going to come back and bite me on the bum further down the line! 😉

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Well everything seems to be working okay now except for nothing is saving to the system > cache folder.

Admittedly I didn’t actually re-upload that folder as I had never downloaded it in the first place because when I’m moving sites or re-uploading them for whatever reason I always leave that folder out of it and just re-create it manually plus an index.html (644) file inside it.

However if I turn on template caching for any of my templates and visit a page that uses that template, nothing is getting stored to the cache folder.

Any reason why that would be?

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Hi, Mark. I’m sorry no one was around for the weekend to assist.

What I tend to do is install a fresh version of EE 1.7.1, and then replace the database files except for the exp_sites table.

As far as the cache folder goes, did you make sure it’s writable?

    Hi Sue,

No problems. I didn’t think there would be with Monday and everything.

Yep that’s exactly what I did on this occasion too. In fact that’s what I always do when performing this kind of operation.

As far as the cache folder goes, did you make sure it’s writable?

Yep 777 at the moment and still nothing being written to the folder. Was working just fine before the move which is why it’s a bit confusing that it’s not working now.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

    Hi, Mark.

Do you have the luxury of redoing a brand new install on this server, and verify that you can indeed write to the folder?

Thanks for coming back to me on this and also apologies as I could swear I’d already posted the solution to this. Must be going mad in my old age.

Seems the server was / is having some problems and via FTP is reporting permissions on files and folders completely differently to what they really are. I only found out when I went into the Plesk control panel and saw that they were different there to the FTP report.

Got in touch with the host and all is fixed now.

    Best wishes,

    Mark
