Just installed EE 2.2. Why does the debugging message appear in bottom of my CP & bottom of the front end of website? See attached screenshot of the CP. The same debugging message appears on the front end. Thanks in advance.

Hi Hyun,
According to the changelog the SQL Queries & Template Debugging options have now been turned on as a default.
I’m not too sure why this was chosen and myself personally I’d rather it wasn’t as I don’t like that on unless I want it on or it really does just detract my mind from what I’m trying to do, though that’s just me.
You can turn these off though by going to Admin > System Administration > Output and Debugging and turning off the bottom two options there. That should get you back to the way things used to be 😉
Don’t worry about it being on the front end either as it will only show to Super Admin users and not any other user.
Would be nice to hear from EllisLab as to why this was turned on by default though, anyone?
Best wishes,
Mark

Thanks Mark! I am wondering is it because EE 2.2 is still in its beta stage?

I’m not sure although I was under the impression that 2.2 was not a beta.

Hyun,
We’re showing the output profiler by default because people have shown an interest in making their ExpressionEngine sites faster. The Output Profiler gives you an idea of how heavy a particular page is and shows you some queries that might indicate what tags are taking the longest and creating the most queries.
And Mark is right, 2.2 is not a beta.

Definitely true about people wanting to make sites faster although for me I’d rather either have the option upon installing to turn this on or not or just leave it off and turn it on when I want.
The first thing I did was turn it off when 2.2 had installed. It’s not that I don’t use it, I most definitely do and it has gotten me out of a few problems before but I just find it really really distracting to have it on all the time.
I may well just be the minority here though?
Best wishes,
Mark

Mark,
We’ve seen a few folks mention that they’re turning it off immediately too, so it’ll be up for some discussion among the developers before our next release.

Thanks Wes. Like I mentioned I do think it has its place and more people should use it more often but it is a little distracting even for Super Admins I believe.
Thanks for listening though, it’s much appreciated.
Best wishes,

Hyun,
Do you need anything else? Or is the problem all solved?

All good here. As Mark stated, I would too rather have the debugging to be off by default and have the option to turn it on if needed. Cheers.

Hyun,
Alright, I’m going to mark this as resolved. Don’t hesitate to start a new topic if you have any other questions.
