    This question may be related to a resolved thread.

    This issue is exactly as described in the related thread(link above) although I have verified that there is no name conflict with the custom fields. On the Publish or Edit forms I have an image field and a text field which are behaving this way. The “field collapse” arrow image to the left of the label is pointing downward, indicating that the field should be seen but this is not the case.

    Also, when attempting to hide the custom field from the Edit Entry - ‘channel_name’, I can save the Publish Layout but after hiding the toolbar, saving the entry, then editing another entry in the same channel, the custom field appears again (or at least its’ label is visible) in the Edit form.

    These “disappearing” custom fields are set to be shown by default ( Show this field by default? = Yes) in the Custom field settings.

    I must enter data directly into the database to publish any post. This behavior was not always occurring but now that it has begun, it will not stop.

    Employing MultiSite Manager.
    EE v2.1.1.

    Hi devmonkey,

    Welcome to the forums 😊

    You are quite a few versions behind in EE and that resolved thread itself is an old thread. This issue you have has most likely shook itself out in later releases.

    Normally I would advise to upgrade your version straight away but we have a new version EE2.2 scheduled for release tomorrow if you wish to wait for then?

    Thanks for your reply!

    I posted a new thread because I could only find that one explicit account of a recovery from the issue and wasn’t having luck finding other reports of it. While I’d love to dig right in with v2.2 I’ll read up on the beta reports before I jump to it. I will definitely be updating to 2.1.3 next week if v2.2 is causing anyone fits. As soon as I upgrade, I’ll post the result to complete this thread.

    Sounds good, devmonkey. Let us know once you’re able to upgrade if you’re still experiencing any issues.

    I am seeing this same issue. I just upgraded to 2.2.2 from 2.1.3 and am still seeing this issue.. Has there been a fix for this?

    This may be related to Wygwam

    Have you upgraded to the most recent version of Wygwam?

    I have; I’m at Wygwam v.2.3.4.1

    It seems as if Wygwam just doesn’t ever initialize. This happened after moving the Categories into the main publish area.

    I’ve had to uninstall Wygwam altogether and go with the standard text-area.

    devmonkey,

    Were you able to upgrade? Are you still experiencing any issues?

    Brian,

    Are you good to go? Have you contacted Pixel & Tonic about your Wygwam issues?

    Cheers,

    I’m going to try to reinstall Wygwam and recreate the channel, etc. I’ll ask over at Pixel and Tonic as well.

    The core upgrade to v2.2.1 was not effective in resolving this issue. Twice I conducted the upgrade to a fresh database copy and v2.1.1 files to verify my process.

    I do not have Wygwam installed as an Add-on. I could review all Add-ons on my system although I do not believe that to be the cause of this.

    I will eventually look at every code block executed to see just how the custom form fields are being rendered and look for any difference in the two custom form fields compared to other custom form field instances.

    Could it be a file permissions issue?

    It is only two custom form fields that are behaving badly. They include the image for the post (Custom Field Type = File) and a text field (Custom Field Type = Text Input). Could it be how they were created? Hard to say because this problem did not always exist in v2.1.1. It just began and I did not document the details of when/who/where and troubleshoot immediately.

    Also, and this may be a related issue (a clue) is that the image thumbnails are randomly displaying on existing posts - either a white rectangle icon or no thumbnail at all. Rarely is there an actual thumbnail of the chosen image rendered in the Edit form of a channel post. This behavior was not always the case either. First install of EE was joyous, completely functional and pleasing. Now I’m looking like rube for choosing this CMS because the folks that enter the posts can’t even administer their posts’ images (on that note, group permission changes have no effect on the issue).

    As the workaround for this issue, I am having to manually paste info for two custom form fields.

    Example:

    Table = exp_channel_data
    Column = field_id_3
    Data = https://ellislab.com/asset/images/pronet-logo/myImageName.jpg

    Hi devmonkey,

    Are you using any custom Publish Layouts? If so, have you tried resetting those?

    Let us know,

    I have attempted to reset the custom Publish Layout but clicking on that “Reset Layout” button below the “Save Layout” button seems to do nothing - no matter which member group checkboxes I select (thinking that might have something to do with it).

    I tested this way:

    CP Home->Content->Publish->[Existing Entry]->Show Toolbar->Reset Layout

    I tried resetting layout with an existing entry and with a new entry. I trashed the Publish Tab and recreated the Publish Tab. I created an entirely new Tab and found that only these two custom fields are still not showing their fields (only their form labels) within two of my channel entry/edit forms. Another of my channel forms does indeed have these two custom fields working correctly by showing the “Add File” link and the text field respectively. So the problem is channel specific!
