Hi, I am having an issue when I try to enable a 404 page for our site. Currently I have everything set up as using the 1st segment only (via a single index template). The reason I did this is for simple URL structure i.e. http://www.domain.com/about vs. www.domain.com/site/pages/about, etc.

When I enable the 404 page in the Global Template Preferences, every page shows up as 404. Is there any way I can keep my nice URLs and only have pages that do not actually exist forward to the 404 template?

    Thanks

    jdgraffam,

Do you have Strict URLs turned on?

What do you have in your index template?

Have you tested with your htaccess disabled and index.php added back into General Configuration.

What version and build of EE are you using?

    Are you using any add-ons?

Hi and thank you for the reply.

    - I have tried with and without strict URLs.

    - My index template is too big for this post here is a zipped version

    - Yes, I tried this as well with the same result.

    - ExpressionEngine v2.1.3 - Build:  20101220

    - Add-ons:
      - Low Seg2Cat
      - Facebook Connect (solspace)
      - Threaded comments
      - Character Limiter

    Thanks

    Hi jdgraffam,

I created a new template group (“test”) and going to http://www.domain.com/test works fine. So it’s something about your (quite complex) site/index template that is causing the 404. Why not create a template group for each segment you’d like, and just use the index template of each group? That would be easier to manage and more flexible, I think.
