I have a client who would like to export member data to a CSV file, this would be for one given member group only but would need to include all the custom fields within that group. I’d also like to do it within the confines of the system control panel.

I have resigned myself to writing a chunk of PHP to solve the problem but if there was a plugin available I’d much prefer to take that approach.

Has anybody else solved an issue like this?

Take a look at NSM Reports. If memory serves me correctly there is already a sample report which does some of this.

You can of course create your own report to handle what you need though.
