Does the site or docs mention compatibility with 1.x?
    I didn’t notice anything….

Looks very nice, well done Michael.

Just purchased it via devot-ee.com even though I’ve not actually ever even used the Pages module on any sites yet 😉

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Thanks so much Mark! We’re really enjoying building and supporting these things. It’s definitely one of my favorite things to work on over here.

    Hey handyman!

Right now this is a 2.x addon only. If there is enough interest, we may port it to 1.x down the road.

Just purchased via Devot-ee.com, have an immediate use for this.

Love the concept of Ramp-Up pricing, I hope it works for you and other devs follow suit.

I would certainly like to see a EE 1.x version.

[As an aside, less than 90 seconds after i pushed the purchase button my credit card company were on the phone asking if this was a valid purchase ! 😊 They are not accustomed to such low purchases from me.]

Hey Flatulent Badger (wasn’t expecting to type that today),

Hopefully other people don’t run into this! We were just trying to find a nice cheap way of introducing the product. Maybe by tomorrow when it is $2 the issue will be resolved? 😊

    Hey Michael,

Nice work. Excellent screencast displaying the product as well. Nice touch 😊

I can’t help but ask, have you seen ‘Plates from Iain Urquhart before? It seems these two add-ons are strikingly similar at heart.

    Hey Erik!

Thank you so much! We had a blast building it.

Unfortunately, until yesterday (post-launch) I had no idea what ‘Plates did. Looking at it now, they are clearly very similar. The thing is, that I actually did do some searching around Devot-EE to make sure that I wasn’t wasting my time reinventing the wheel, and somehow didn’t even see it.

The REALLY funny part, is that both Iain and Booyant have also created Navigation (NavEE & Taxonomy) addons as well (we released them right around the same time too).

We are going to sit down and chat about it with our team today - and I’ll keep you all posted.

    Michael,

I’m totally fine with some healthy competition in the EE marketplace, it’s good for EE and it’s good for developers.

What has raised my eyebrow is the add-on is functionally identical to mine, and you’ve canon blasted a $1 sale. Essentially striking any value out of both add-ons for the foreseeable future (eg folks buying 10 licenses).

I don’t sell many add-ons, 2 in fact out of the dozen or so I’ve given to the community. ‘Plates has returned my time investment in making it, so open sourcing it is pretty much what’s left to do now.

    Hey Iain!

I hope you got the email I sent you this morning through your website. If not, let me know what email address is best and I will send it direct.

We try really hard to keep on top of all the addons out there, and are certainly aware of your work (obviously with Taxonomy and NavEE being such similar beasts). But for whatever reason, with the signal to noise ratio as it currently stands, we genuinely missed ‘Plates. As you said, they absolutely do very similar things, with a few exceptions from what I can see.

We have a bunch of other stuff planned for Better Pages in the near future, but as an agile shop (and in thinking that we had this great new idea) we wanted to get the core functionality out as soon as possible! 😊 So, hopefully, once we build the additional functionality into Better Pages the features sets won’t be so close.

As for the pricing, again, I apologize. The very last thing we meant to do was devalue your (or our) addon. Our intention was to give users the ability to try it out at a discounted rate rather than having to blow the full price on something they weren’t sure if they needed. This way, as new project come up - they would be familiar with how handy it can be.

Anyway - thanks for responding here. As I mentioned in my email this morning, the last thing I want to do is have there be any confusion about our intentions with this addon - or to have any bad blood between developers. We are a pretty small company, in a relatively small group of addon devs out there, and we support all of them all the time. In fact, for every EE install we build, we probably spend more on addons than we do on the core!

I sent you my phone number and email address in that message this morning - and I would be more than happy to chat about this in person (well, not on email) if there are any things you feel aren’t resolved. The EE community is really awesome, and we really want to remain a positive part of that community.

Bought and installed better pages, and its working great from the admin account. I’ve set up a test just like the one in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDb7bh98VEM, however when i try to post from an account in my regular member group, things don’t work. The user is able to post the entry normally, and there are no signs of anything going wrong, however when I point the browser to the new URL, the page is blank. (everything inbetween the channel entries tag pair is blank).

Again, works perfectly posting form an admin account. What am i doing wrong? What permissions am i overlooking, if any?

    EDIT.

The problem occurs because the page status is automatically set to “closed” (even if the status is set to open in the publish page). Where in EE can I change this? I can’t seem to find anything in the member group that would do the trick? (Then again Im very new to EE). Any help is appreciated!

    EDIT AGAIN.

I don’t know what I messed up, but now it magically works.
