    Hi All,

I need to allow people to access the file manager, but only their own files… I’m using Channel Images at the moment, but I really feel bad about using it, it bypasses the existing file system completely, and future migration is going to be a big issue. It’s a just a hack in the end.

A few months ago, I saw a post somewhere that was using the {group_id} and {member_id} in the upload destination paths to automatically create those sub folders…

It might have been a feature request for all I know. But now I can’t find it, is there a way to do this?

    Thanks,
    Johan

If this isn’t possible, is it possible to allow certain groups to upload pictures as per usual, but without being able to see the existing files, while allowing admins to see all the files?

Safecracker File would allow that, but doesn’t allow the admins to use the file manager… Is it possible to use the standard File field in the backend, and the Safecracker File field in a safecracker form?

    Thanks!

    Johan,

I remember said post too. I did a bit of searching and couldn’t find it unfortunately either

Not both for same field I’m afraid. It would make a good feature request though to only allow file upload ability in the FileManager form per member group

    Feature Request submitted: http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/189038/

John Henry, any idea whether this could land at all? land in 2.2?

Last q?, converting File fields to Safecracker fields, and vice versa, wouldn’t cause the data to be lost?

    Hi Johan,

Thanks for submitting the Feature Request. I’m afraid that we no idea whether a certain request might be integrated and if so when that might be. With regards to converting File fields, I’ve never done it but before you try it do make sure that you have complete and working backup so that you can revert if things go wrong.

    Cheers

    Greg
