Hi all,
Edit: I’ve been researching more since posting this and it looks like MSM will enable a lot of this functionality, which is great! I’d still appreciate any input to make sure I’m on the right track though 😊
I’ve just started playing around with EE after developing with Wordpress for awhile, so my mindset is a bit ditzy regarding some of the terms and components EE uses/offers.
Forgive me if these questions are obnoxiously dumb. I’ve tried searching, reading tutorials and playing with the admin CP but haven’t made much progress yet.
I need to setup what are being (maybe poorly) referred to as channels - which are basically content containers. Kind of like categories, but they’d actually contain categories themselves. For example:
Games (Channel)
- Action (Category)
- Sport
- Roleplaying
Movies
- Drama
- Comedy
There are three main requirements that I have to meet, which are:
1. Theme channels differently from one another (header/footer/layout) - not just CSS
2. Separate content from one another (i.e. an article posted to Games won’t show up in Movies)
3. Have separate URLs for each channel - games.domain.tld/ or http://www.domain.tld/games/
A good example of what I’m trying to achieve is similiar to the way ign.com is setup. They have subdomains which are themed differently, and contain different content, but share a user system.
Is it possible to utilize channels in this way, or is that not the intention of them? We’re more than happy to purchase more than one license if it’s required to achieve this, but the membership system has to be shared between the ‘channels’.
I hope that made sense, sorry if it didn’t!
Cheers.
