    Hey.

So I did something incredible stupid this morning and accidentally deleted a member with almost 6000 posts on the forums. Not only that but because he has started so many good threads in the past, about 10,000 posts have been deleted in total, including some of the most important threads we had, basically wiping out approx 25% of our posts.

    We are using EE 1.6.9

Right now I am working with our developers to see if something can be done but apparently it’s not looking good.

    Can anything be done?

Please help! I’ll see if I can get my developer on here to ask any specific questions.

    So annoyed with myself!!! :(

I did something like that once!

I forget exactly what I did, but I think I reinstated his posts from a backup…......

If you don’t have a backup…......well, that speaks for itself!

Yeah I read all your posts about your incident 😊

Unfortunately our database backup was corrupt and apparently we’re out of options. Devastated but I’ve accepted the fact of what’s happened.

In conclusion, I’m an idiot. 😉

I used a backup from a few weeks prior…so if you have ANY backup, you can at least get a lot of posts back.
I am fairly certain that EE disposes of the posts…....but someone else can confirm!

In addition to the backup at my ISP (which I have no real control over), I tar up the mysql directory every couple of months and then download it to my home computer via FTP. If you have the DB, you could lose everything else in EE and still have what matter most!

I also do the same with my entire EE directories - every couple of months when I think about it…....

Thanks dude, appreciate the info. I’ll pass it onto our devs.

    js263,

Your host may have been keeping automatic backups. I would definitely check with them as soon as possible. Most good hosts have some sort of redundancy happening

I spoke to them briefly yesterday (Codero) but they said they weren’t backing up any of our data. I’m speaking to them again now to double check. Also my developer told me even if they were backing up data it would be the *disk* data which wouldn’t help us anyway.

Would a third party data recovery program be of any use? I just got off the phone with Codero and they suggested we purchase a third party sofware recovery program and they said the MIGHT be able to help us.

They might be able to help. You would need to supply them with the disk the database was on.

This isn’t something we can advise on, I would recommend contacting a data recovery service for advice.
